*Choices Again* C4S / TT / CSL
Discussion
Well went to Porche centre today had a look round the cars. I currently have a CSL.
Have got it down to three choices.
Any opinions would be good. Bit of background... I enjoy driving on track however I'm not the greatest driver in the world, and I normally drive round safely, because of my age I can't afford to have another accident so I don't tend to give it my all on track. I love driving around Europe, and love German roads. I like noise, don't mind uncomfy seats and don't car about mpg. I also like to drive Europe in winter time, which means 4wd would be a bonus as I've been in snow before in an M3 and it was aweful! In the scoob is was fine, even on summer tyres.
So, my choices.
Option 1
911 TT
Coupe, 2002, on a 52 plate. Tiptronic. 33,000 miles, black with grey leather. All the toys, FSH, 1 owner. Drove it, lovely place to be, however the noise isn't there. It's like being in an M3 but with crazy amounts of power.

Option 2
911 C4S
Coupe, 2004, on a 04 plate. Tiptronic. 18,000 miles, blue with black leather. Sports Exhausts, all the toys, not sure about the colour but noise is lovely. But, is it enough power?

Option 3
M3 CSL
Keep the CSL? it's currently at 9.200 miles, over 10,000 some people shy away. Lovely noise, lovely power.

I spend more time on motorways than I do on track, so gut feeling is to go for the TT, but it really is a tricky one. C4S is newer, nicer cabin feel, lovely sound. But then I'd probably just want a TT!
For track use I'd keep the CSL, but ironically I'd probably be faster in a 205 purely because of the fact I'm so damn worried about spanking the CSL
Any advice gratefully received. Option 4 is to my a fiesta, but life is too short!

Keep the CSL. The only 911 you should even consider in the same league is the GT3RS and they are silly money. The CSL will murder both the others on track, and has some day to day practicalities such as useable rear perches etc.
Don't be a sheep and follow the drongos in this viper's nest. They don't acknowledge quite how good the CSL is.
And the engine is in the right place too.

From what you say you need a road car first and a track car second, so I would choose either the TT or the C4S, as both the RS & the CSL are a little raw for day-day use (though probably the CSL is a better day to day bet)
Situation reversed (track car first, road car second) then RS or CSL, both are fantastic & very different. The CSL is fantastic value for money at the moment, whereas the Porsche is a Porsche & not a 3 series BMW which litter our roads all looking the same.

PS: I had a 996 C4S for a few weeks then made the mistake of driving a TT, I now have a TT.

TT's are very good value at the moment too - £50k can get you an early one.
420bhp standard (but perhaps much more important, 413lbs torque standard) plus if you get bored of that then hand over a couple of grand & you have a pretty reliable 500bhp & 500lbs torque, in a car that you can drive all day everyday.
I use mine to go shopping in, ferry the kids around, work & back....then when its needed its one of the fastest point to point cars on british roads that you can get.

Indeed, I need a road car first, track car second.
I find the CSL very 'skittish' on the road, which at 100mph + can sometimes give you a scare!
If you wanna track the "road car", forget the C4S it has lardy TT weight(1500 kg +) , but only 320bhp..
The TT would be slightly better on track, (obviously good on road).. but would need bucket seats, upgraded brakes, and prob some extra boost..
The CSL is best road car option with GT3/RS track ability.. that is why I'm back in one, having had one last year, then a GT3, now back in CSL.. also had C4S and 993TT.!
If you wanna buy a Porker, then look at 997 S.. I think this is currently best 911 on road, that has good track ability..
IMO

Sorry a bit O/T but (GT3orCSL)Rob how did the 993 TT compare with the GT3?
Is the GT3 better road / track car?
Thanks
Mark
have had a few cars in between these 2, so hard to compare back to back..
993 TT , hmmm memories.. stunning curves, especially rear end
, hewn from solid metal, build quality ( clunk of doors) , old school 911.
GT3 is focused track car, but still needs mods to get it up to scratch.!
If the CSL is a bit skittish on the roads, forget a GT3 or RS.
If you then want to track a car, stay with the CSL.
Honest !
Then TT
Then C4S.
Or go for the TT for a change and balance better road behaviour and performance against a poorer track experience (accepting that the CSL's brakes would probably need attention).

Well phatgixer
If you and your car are so fast, come and pitch it against the porsches in the fun open invite porsche club gb sprint, around brands on the bank holiday, one and half laps on cold tyres and brakes,a standing start that will sort out the traction debate.Against the clock, only you and your machine,
you would hope a certain yellow 964rs is not there to show you how to do it!

Be interesting to see Mr Gixxer come along,,, at least he does track his.. some might say very hard?!
For the 422 odd UK CSL in the UK, I can honestly say I have seen more owners on Porsche forums telling everyone how great they are, than I have actually seen on trackdays this year...Harsh but fair!
