Took my 911 for a service and they found a cut in the thread of the right rear tyre that was deep enough to recommend changing it. It was quite difficult to see so did not spot it.
OPC said it could have been repaired but suggested to change it which is fine, I do not want to take any chance

I have Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. After 1 month they still could not source a tyre. they tried to blame Michelin and only after having a robust conversation they finally fund a tyre. Initially they even suggested that I may want to change all tyres to a different manufacturer. Which is nuts as all4 tyres are few months old and with huge thread left

Here are my concerns
1) is Michelin supply really low? Michelin Sport 4S are quite a popular choice. this would really surprise me
2) What would have happened if I had a proper puncture ? leave the car for a month ?

has anyone else experienced anything similar

ps: for the record, I love Michelin but i think they are really fragile, this is the 3rd rear tyre I change well before it is worn due cuts / punctures

As I had posted elsewhere , yes.
New rear tyre needed on my R8 - 600 miles or so from new.
No PS4S in the UK to fit and Michelin replied to my email saying no idea when they might be.
Am therefore changing all 4 to P Zeros (PZ4 ) and also ordering a replacement PS4S to therefore end up with 2 complete sets - Audi / Dealer are paying for 3 of them.

Priced some up for my car a few months back everywhere had them.

Need some new tyres soon and the computer says no!

Tho I did find somewhere offering PS5s , so im guessing the PS4s are being phased out anyway?

IRRC, the PS5 is not the successor to the PS4S.

But the Michelin supply issue is real. A fellow PH’er is trying to find tyres for his Mk 1 996 GT3, never mind the correct sizes not being available available, even the incorrect Mk 2 sizes are unavailable too.

It might only affect specific sizes. I replaced the tyres on my GT4 with MPS4S recently. Didn't have any trouble sourcing them and the Michelin offer is available from most suppliers.

There is a shortage of Carbon Black in the supply chain, Russia is a huge producer of it, there are tyre shortages across all use cases from 2 to 4 wheels, everyone in the biking community has the same issue, my favorite Bridgestone motorbike slicks been unavailable for nearly 4 weeks.

Any link to the offer? As can't find a current one?

Chap mentioned it when I went for fitting at Protyre. I'd ordered through a third party (Asda being the cheapest) so I couldn't get the IIRC £30 off per tyre. He mentioned it's worth phoning a Michelin supplier first to enquire as sometimes they are more 'in-store' than advertised.

Interesting how the initial comments relate to the vulnerability of the Michelins. I run P Zeros and on a similar thread recently, most were warning off these as the lifespan is so short (wear) and so better to fit Michelins. Can't win!

Don't know where you are located, but try Tyrepoint in Maidstone. Superb service and they seem to be able to source the impossible.

Took a good 2-3 months to get mine last year through Costco tyres who I was told are owned by michellin ?
Worth the wait though and at least you know they are not old stock .
Granted not ideal if it’s a daily driver .

Not sure which gen of C4S you have, but Camskill have N rated PS4S in the size that was on the back of my exs 991 C4S in stock. Costco worth trying. Indeed Costco have been at least £400 cheaper than my OPC for sets of tyres on the 911 or my Cayman when they've had their £100 off 4 offer on.

If you really can't get a PS4S then you could look at Goodyears. We we got the 991 it came with P Zeros on it and I'd rather run bare rims than have them on a car again.

Good luck with the hunt. thumbup
