To get into the courtyard in front of my house you have to cross over the dropped curb and there is about a car length before you get to the gates. Although we're in the center of town it's not a busy road but there is resident permit parking only. Every weekend I find someone parked on my drive, obscuring the gates. The arrogance of some of these people is unbelievable and I was even regarded as "not a very nice neighbor" yesterday for not allowing some visitors to park there. If I buy a wheel clamp and put a sign up, can I clamp people who park there?
As an alternative, I'm tempted to spend a few hundred pounds on a old car and just drive it into people obscuring my exit.
As you can see, I've had enough of this.....

Should sort it out

It is bloody inconsiderate that sort of thing. IIRC the Police aren't overly bothered either!

Good luck mate.

If you are to go down the clamping route then you will have to get a Licence.....

Is it not possible to visit one of those Signmaking shops and have a couple of plastic NO PARKING - DO NOT BLOCK ENTRANCE signs made up and erected on site?.

I've ordered one of these www.parrs.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=E186
so far. I can't tell you how frustrating it is though.

Don't become a clamper, please! they're the scum of the earth, fit only for the 7th circle of hell.

Aren't you entitled to have the police move vehicles blocking you in?

Have you parked in front of one of said inconsiderate parkers with your own car, blocking them in?

What about no parking signs as DVD suggested? anything but clamping!

Krusty - I have had many dealings with rougue clampers (in a professional capacity).

I think the Gist of this is being lost somewhat. I am trying to stop people parking on my driveway, which is three cars wide by one car deep. My private land. That's all. I don't want to extort money from people, just inconvenience them in the same way they do me every weekend. I’m not getting the Police to move people on. They’ve got enough local scumbags to deal with already. I’ll put a sign up and maybe invest in some hard to remove stickers and see how it goes.

When I worked for 3Com, we were originally in a building which had a carpark area that was "shared" with the company nextdoor (each had bays marked with company name). Time and time again, the other company's employees would fill up "our" spaces. The 3Com site manager devised a devious response: He would glue an A-4 sheet with "3Com Parking Only" to the windscreen. At the bottom of the sheet it said "soapy water and scrapper available at 3Com reception on receipt of appology".

Worked a treat.

IIRC, the sticking of a hard-to-remove sticker on the window of a car which would, technically, make it illegal to drive is 'criminal damage',as you have rendered the vehicle unfit for its intended use.
Just be careful, that's all. You don't want to do this, then get up one morning and find that someone has poured Nitromors all over your car during the night.

Best idea so far - you could also put up a post at either end of the area and put a padlocked chain accross.

I've got gates. The idea of the car length in front is so that you can get off the road whilst the gates open
That's the bit they're parking on

Do the gates open onto the space or away from the space? Surely if the gates are opened remotely then the car parked there will get scraped as many times as you push the controller

What about one of those lockable posts that you can secure in the upright position. Like this one

Nice idea but they open inwards. I would definitely have already done this

Can you change them so that they open outwards - or put a sign up saying the do and that any damage to the gates will be the responsibility of the car owner - also put up a dummy CCTV camera to 'record' their details.

I take it you don't have civilianised parking enforcement then.

If so perhaps you could offer a service to the council? Or inform the civilanised outfit the revenue potential. Might be worth dropping a drink or two in the direction of the PAs.

Following NOT legal but potential for amusement is endless.

Or get some official looking tickets and sticky placcy envelopes. You might get a few £30 cheques to the accommodation address you nominate. If nowt else the opportunity to muck them about when they phone in to plea bargain / appeal.

Put up a sign saying "Warning, I drive a tank. People parking here do so at their own risk". Altenatively, what's to stop you painting 2 very nice parallel yellow lines on your land. Goes with the curtains doesn't it.
