Looks like a decent event - compared with the rather dire offerings from Duxford, post Flying Legends.

Plenty of other stuff to see on the ground too.

I’ve not been to Shuttleworth since the ‘70’s, and I can’t remember much about it tbh.

Should be a decent day out if everything turns up, or am I being over optimistic?

I can't vouch too much for the actual airshow itself but Iove the venue. It's also good for ground to air photography of the flying because the sun is usually positioned behind the photographer.

I love the Shuttleworth airshows. They always seem a much more relaxed affair, great for families and good sightlines for he photographers. The museum is also a must see, then there's also the DeHavillands house to see if you or your other half have had enough of aircraft. Great to see four Wasps in the visiting aircraft list, didn't know that many had been returned to the air.

It goes without saying to bring your own food, the queues for coffee and burgers are stupidly long and there's only a few of them.

Don't forget the new entrance route is now off the B658.

Unless you have particular mobility issues or like to sit by your car, don't worry too much about turning up early. You'll just be queuing all the way along through the field until they start letting you in. I'm local so I prefer to drive in an hour before show start for a nice leisurely trip biggrin

Thanks all. Sounds like it's a potential replacement for our annual FL outing. I'm hoping it will be a bit more relaxed and less crowded, but somehow I doubt it.

Sounds like traffic might be an issue, but that can't be helped - it's a 2 hr drive for us, so we'd be arriving about 10/11.

We'd got into a routine at Duxford - knew where to park, where to watch etc, so this will be a new experience.

It's a MUCH smaller venue but, despite that, I've never felt crowded at any of the events I've attended there.
Last time I attended an air display there (2019) I drove in my motorhome and they even had a spot set aside for motorhome parking - under some trees.

All very civilised.

Shuttleworth is almost a family affair compared to Duxford which is now a corporate machine.

A friend of mine has a house that more or less backs on to Shuttleworth ( two fields away) but he’s away travelling until the 8th, shame…

It's nowhere near as sprawling as Duxford and you're not having to walk miles just to get to the toilet block. Just watch out if they park you backing onto the house (where the cars are here) as you're then trapped in a pocket of trees either side which severely restricts your field of view. But in these post covid days, you're no longer trapped in a parking box for the duration of the daytime flying anymore so you can just saunter on down to the flight line if you wish.

Thanks. I wasn’t planning on sitting in the car - I’m hoping there’s plenty to see when walking around.

I love shuttleworth, it's so much more relaxed. I live about 20 minutes away and go pretty often.
Museum is great and they have the only flying examples of some really iconic aircraft (lysander is my favourite)
If you get to go to an evening show and the wind is minimal they also get out the victorian stuff which really is a sight.
There is a great flight line and pretty much everywhere will guarantee a great view.
If you get there early make sure you also want round the Swiss Gardens.

As already mentioned, take your own food and drink...

Thanks for that.

I like the Lysander too - In the UK, Duxford have an airworthy one, as well as Shuttleworth.

There are quite a few Shuttleworth videos on You Tube. They give a good feel for their events. I like the access allowed to the aircraft and the fact that there are plenty of knowledgeable personnel around to chat to and who are willing to share their knowledge.

Nice event. We went with the family before COVID. Placed our chairs directly by the fence, without having to turn up early. The Right Crowd and No Crowding as it were. Here’s a couple of photos.

I live fairly nearby and thought I'd have a look at the website info.

£42 a ticket - is that correct, I'm not normally tight but that's seems pretty steep unless I'm missing something?

They start selling them in December at earlybird rates e.g. I bought my season premiere tickets for £29 and they rose to full price of £45 at the end of February. Ticket prices have only been going one way for years at all airshow venues sadly.

Haha I only have EV's now so perhaps you are right.

My motorbike recently cost £18 to fill up, and a jerry can for the lawnmower was an outrageous £30 - so I am tight probably.

Is it a good show worth the money?
