The guy I sit next to at work had a problem with his car this morning. The clutch went. He managed to get home and borrow his wife's car and come to work. He then called the AA to come and pick his car up from his house.

He was told that somebody would have to travel with the car to the garage. When he asked why, he was told that it was because of the security threats at the moment, and they needed somebody to be with the car to make sure that it didn't contain a bomb.

Now this particular piece of beureaucratic stupidity misses 3 points:

1) Would Al Qaeda REALLY want to blow up an AA recovery truck?

2) Assuming that the AA wasn't their target. Would they want to blow up his local branch of Mr. Clutch?

3) What if they used one of those suicide bombers, who would quite happily travel with their car bomb to wreak havoc on the motor servicing sector of Mr. Blair's satanic country?

Talk about bloomin' stupidity.

In fact, the AA have decided only to attend GENUINE breakdowns.

In line with Government policy on exam results, a breakdown is no longer a breakdown, it is a deferred start. Henceforth only terminal failure...sorry, musn't use that word, only terminal incapacity to perform a function through destruction of the relevant component will qualify as a genuine breakdown.

Honest....

AA have a getout clause - they send Automania instead who can't find you and say you went home . . common problem apparently . . . and one I am dealing with at the moment . . .

Depends on the service they got, I suppose.
