Hi all
Looking for advice and potentially ideas.
I have my name down on an Emira V6 manual that is due next summer. I ordered because I am a big Lotus fan and I kind of knew if I wanted one I had to get my name down. Since then specs have come out and the reviews. With the reviews not being completely glowing it got me thinking what else does 80k buy me. I’m not necessarily cancelling my Emira until I drive one myself, but do feel that I should consider the alternatives.
The brief is that I want a ground up sports car, mid engined that I can drive everyday including business trips across Europe. So probably not too flash as I don’t need my customers demanding discounts because I turned up in a McLaren (happened before with a Bentley). Would also like to do a couple of trackdays a year as I will finally have my own car to do them.
Current list look at:
R8 V10
981 GT4
718 GTS
A110
991.2
Struggling to think of much else?
The wild card idea I have thought of is to buy an Exige drive it everyday but do trips in my wife’s Tesla. But I worry that would get old fast especially as would still have to do regular airport runs and I have images of stepping off the plane late at night after bad meetings on a miserable dark raining February evening being faced with 4 hours home in an Exige. Not sure how I would feel about it.
Have considered a super car but potential for big bills is a little bit off putting plus they seem to have moved out of reach. How bad can the bills be on something like a 570S? My Dads F430 seems to relieve him of 5k+ every time it goes to the garage. In my current position as a daily I worry about digging myself a hole.
I’m sure some will suggest 2 cars to do the job but I have a disabled son so I don’t get all that much dedicated time to do car stuff so I want my daily to give me smiles everyday.
Thanks for any and all help.

Harry Metcalfe on Harrysgarage seemed to be very happy with it and pleased with having ordered one, who wasn’t impressed? I also suspect they will have bugger all depreciation as it is the last of it’s bread from Lotus.
Evo called it disappointing, Autocar put it second to the Cayman as did Car magazine although their written report was much more positive than the video. I am by no means cancelling I am still excited by the car but the reviews did jolt me that I am potentially spending what is to me a huge amount of money with out considering the alternatives.

I suspect they reviewed it so as it's not as raw and exciting as the Elise maybe? Which version have you ordered? Harry seemed to suggest the Touring spec is a better car to live with than the Sports spec.I am by no means cancelling I am still excited by the car but the reviews did jolt me that I am potentially spending what is to me a huge amount of money with out considering the alternatives.

Using Thorney Motorsport should also keep the costs closer to the V10 R8 too.

Oh yeah with their gearboxes that are basically normal wear and tear replaceable items that grenade themselves every 15k, plus all the electrical issues…llllhttps://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202206066...

I have an Exige. I absolutely love it. I wouldn’t love it after a long flight and a long drive home in miserable weather though!
It’s honestly not bad I think it’s fairly comfortable, noisy though. It has blind spots and it’s a car you have to concentrate and drive if that makes sense.

Now I know a few people with Mclarens & two of them are well past 20k & they're gearboxes are working just fine, now some have had a few issues with petrol flaps not opening/infotainment issues & a fuel pump failure. But if you think an R8 can't have the same issues then you're mistaken, also with the 12C most of the wrinles have been sorted
Have you seen a lot of these blown gearboxes personally?
