A "not awful" car that I don't really want.

Suggestions please, for something that ticks as many boxes as possible!

My commute is 80 miles per day, with 45 of those miles on A roads and the rest on a motorway. I currently have an XKR as a daily, but I'm thinking of swapping that for something a little bit more special and hence not something I would want to use as a daily hack. So I now accidentally need something I don't really want, that's not awful, to take over the commute.

Budget £10k

My wishlist is:

• Fast
• Comfortable and leathery on the inside
• Reliable
• Automatic lord gears
• DAB or at least connectivity etc.
• As many miles per gallon as possible
• Not boring if possible
• Ideally not horrible
• Big enough for a few large suitcases

I know all these boxes cannot be ticked (unless i quadruple the budget for a sporty electric or hybrid I guess?)

The answer is an Infiniti Q50 Sport they're ULEZ/CAZ compliant have DAB & if you spend an extra £600 you can add Android Auto/Apple Carplay.

They use the same drivetrain as a C220cdi so you get the same 2.1d 170bhp diesel so the reliability boxes are ticked too.

Volvo V60 D5?

Very leathery and comfortable on the inside, twin turbo 5 cylinder engine with 230bhp and a wonderful soundtrack.

Very left field from the usual BMW/Audi/Merc, so not everyone's cup of tea, but definitely worth considering.

Lexus LS ticks most of that list, especially reliability and not being awful

Values seem to have plateued these last 5 years or so as they were £10k back in 2018, should mean minimal depreciation

Sounds like a BMW F10 5 Series Diesel is what you need.

Ignore the 520d (crappy chain) and the 530d (you’ll pay a premium)

Have a look at the lesser known 525d.

I'd love to recommend the x250 XF 3.0d Sportbrake because it ticks many boxes, but it can be subject to a few expensive and/or annoying problems. It's also Euro 5.

The Infiniti hybrid mentioned is probably what I'd be looking at, a lot of car for the money.
