Sounds like a nut inside the lid, somewhere inside the double skin'd bit I guess.

Yep, I've got one too.

My guess is that it will be a 'drip' of resin, used to bond the skins together, which has solidfied then broken off when the boot lid is slammed shut.

I'm not about to cut the boot lid open to find out, though!

If you know which rib its in, then why not drill a small hole and inject some expanding foam into the cavity? that should trap and stick the offending item in place.. Don't go mad with the foam and possible drill a couple of holes.. you don't want pressure to build up inside the rib as it could bulge the outer skin.. I haven't tried this myself cos luckily this isn't one of my problems..
just a thought.....
