My M5 goes away for paint next week. I've stripped all the trim to make things easier, also I can check and replace anything that's damaged or tarnished when it comes back.

I had the wheels refurbed when I bought the car back in 2007 and it has lasted well, apart from the odd kerb damage so they need doing again now. One of the rears had corrosion around the valve and although it has been sealed with gunge I'd rather have a proper repair here, probably build it up with weld and re-machine the valve aperture.

Any recommendations on where to get them done in the South East? I'd rather deliver and collect as I don't really want to get them done "blind" as been disappointed with refurbs in the past.

I will have them refinished in the standard factory finish.

Keith I had my M2 wheels refurbed in shadow chrome by a Company called "Kerbed" in Small Dole near me in Sussex. It is the second time I used them and I was really pleased with the craftsmanship. You can tell they know what they're doing, have a great process and focus on quality. It's a bit out of the way though, near Brighton. I'll post a pic when I am back in the country.

Lepsons in Gillingham have a good reputation and have been the go-to place for some time. They refurbed a full set of Style 65s for me and I couldn't fault them.

Spit and Polish know to do the e39 shadow chrome. Did mine for £80 a wheel, I was very happy.

Can't remember who did the wheels last time but it may have been Lepsons.

Really need someone who can repair the corrosion around the valve as this is bugging me.

The car went off for paint yesterday, no horror stories from the body shop so far, in fact they say it's the best unmolested e39 they've seen. More pics as things progress.

The wheels were last refurbed by Lepsons as there was a sticker inside one of the rims but they have quoted over £500 to refurb them but really want to see them first which would be a 200 mile round trip to deliver and again to collect, so I'm looking for someone more local now.

The driver's seat needs a small repair on the bolster, so can anyone recommend someone again in the SouthEast, preferably Surry/Hants/Berks border/West London/Southampton area. I've had trim work done before but I'm extra fussy with my M5.

Is Swindon too far - just off junction 16 of the M4 is Platinum Wheels - think they used to be guys at Lepsons who then set up on their own - they did my e39 M5 wheels and did them well…

Possibly a bit too far, but had wheels done by BJV before and they did a good job - http://www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk/ - based near Hemel
