V8 Vantage: 4th oil service. 4th overfill . . .

I've just had a 4th oil service done on the Vantage during my 3+ years of ownership.
After each service (car sat in my garage for at least a few days) the oil level has been sat at at least 1/4 on the dipstick.
If i carry out a cold-start oil level check (run engine at 2000rpm for 20 secs, then check oil after a further 30 secs) the oil is slightly above the top-level of the dipstick. Or even higher than this after last years service.
(I have a syphon so can remove a little excess oil)
Is this typical of main dealer and independents when replacing V8 Vantage oil? Isn't there a better way to do it (surely full to min level at the absolute highest, then perform the cold start oil check procedure and then remove any excess oil when properly checked?) Thus leaving the oil level at max (or slightly less) when correctly checked.
First-world problem (and the free oil is nice!). But if i wan't checking this i'd be risking driving a lot of miles with excess oil which can't be ideal?

Not in my experience of two main dealers and an independent.

Pretty sloppy really. They (has it always been the same workshop?) ought be familiar with the the dry sump system.
Just throwing my thought wave in, if it is pumped in from a barrel then the tech would have the pump with the amount dispensed.
Problem comes that how much under or over, I suppose have they drained from the vehicle, which may mean the difference oil level wise.

When I have checked it on the most level piece I can on the road near me it is just above max (and even then it still has a slight amount of incline to one side).

Had the same overfill issue on my Vanquish which was picked up after an independent inspection just after purchase.
AM dealer stated that it cannot be overfilled as they use a metered amount of oil.
Depends on how much old oil is removed as if any left it overfills that was my conclusion.

Most likely they are putting in a fixed volume for wet fill, which is in fact a little too great. I would enquire , and if so ask them to put in 500ml less next time. Maybe you could post here what volume they are using. I've done a few oil changes, but havn't got it right first time yet.
i would love to know why on a dedicated dry sump a small overfill is relevant.
On a wet sump overfilling is an issue as the crank hits the oil surface foaming which drops the oil pressure.
On a dry sump it just means the level on the tank is a little higher, obviously significantly overfilling is an issue as when the oil expands at temperature it would ultimately be forced out of the vent.
But a small amount? why worry?

Many Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, Z06 and GS models built between 2006 and 2013 are equipped with a dry sump engine lubrication system. This high-performance system operates differently than a standard engine lubrication system and requires a special procedure when checking the engine oil level. When adding engine oil to these vehicles, care must be taken to avoid overfilling the system. Overfilling may cause over-pressurization, which may result in damage to the engine and emissions system components.

Thats a closed vent system, even then i would argue it would just smoke its cock off, which i suppose could be bad news for the cats (assuming you still have them) but it would have to be quite some overfill.
Bottom line is that it would have to be enough to cause it to vent, which will more than just a slight overfill.

Thats my take it on it too....but we do like a good drama. One instance of an issue and it will be an internet legend within months, before you know, it will be a done deal, your engine is going to blow up if you put 200ml too much oil in. Elsewhere its reported 2 instances of a component failure (out of 15k cars) so this means its an epidemic issue present in all cars and we are doomed A modest overfill or under on a dry sump isn’t going to make a s
te of difference. It’s pretty damn hard to get it ‘bang on’ anyway.
