Hey, I'm new....
Discussion
Hi All,
Just thought I would introduce myself...I'm new and in the market (maybe) for an '02 996 and I also consider myself a bit of a "gearhead" - not for my technical knowledge, that's for sure, but for my love of metal. :)
I've been in the "car business" for about 17 years now, and instead of playing with dolls as a kid like most women do, I was playing with hot wheels... so I figure this love of cars has sunk deep into my blood.
So, HI everyone...that is all...

Good morning Vicki,
So, i get the impression you're a Canuck in England? Funny, i'm hoping to go the other way...
Welcome to Pistonheads! You'll find we're all a bit mad here but we're full of useful (and useless) info, and we're always happy to see a new face.
Good luck in your search for "the right 996". What sort of spec are you after?

Thanks all for the welcome!
Yes, I am a "Canuck" (Canadian) living in England now for a little over a year. Once I found out I could get a 4-year Visa to work and live here, I couldn't pass up the opportunity.
As for particulars on the car I am searching for, I would like a "facelift" 996 - so 2002MY?. I would consider a Targa or C2, but not a Cab. Preferences would be Manual trans., sport seats, sport suspension, upgraded audio with 6-pack CD, and sports exhaust so far...I'm having a hard enough time finding one with these options that I don't dare add to my list of "wants".

Check out:
www.911sport.co.uk/
Couple of facelifts on there that are close to your spec and they are great folk who prep the cars really well.
Oh... and welcome to PH!
Don't forget to post a pic of the car when you get it!

I'm another new guy to this forum. Close to buying a 996 manual, 99 plate with 49k on clock. Seems like very clean car with sports exhaust and 18" rims etc... £34k From a Ferrari main dealer with Ferrari 1yr warranty. I'm told (not surprisingly) by them that this warranty is more comprehensive than Porsche's own and has higher claim limit of £5k per claim, 7 max. Does anyone know the details of Porsche own and is the above correct ? Am I paying over the odds ?
I have only briefly read the Porsche warranty booklet, but I don't recall seeing any upper limit on claim value.
I would get the Porsche warranty thrown in (just over £700). With any other warranty, you may have to pay the bill and then re-claim from the warranty company. Some after market warranty companies will only pay for "sudden unexpected failure" which excludes things that fail slowly, they require a part to be completely stripped even though its obviously broken (more cost to you which they don't pay for) and you are often more likely to get paid out by putting the money on a long odds horse. They have more exclusions and get outs than you would believe.
Warranty Holdings are about the biggest and underwrite many used car warrnties, sold under different names. Have a search on some car forums to find out what service you could expect from a non manufacturer warranty.

Seems like quite a lot, how about the silver 996 C2 here, pretty much exactly what you describe for 29K:

Edited to add: no links, involvement, etc. in fact I've never even been there ...

I bought a pre-modded 996 privatly, took me near 6 months to find the right one (very very nearly ditched it all and bought a brand new Mitstubishi Evo 8 400!)
I might have spent a couple of £££ to get it 100% but I love it to bits, I use it everyday like any other car and now I know its sorted, I am proud (and brave as Simon H has seen).
Porsche ownership can be costly, so dont stretch too far on initial purchase, if there is somthing a couple of grand less than you have a good feeling about go for it, at least that way you will have a couple of grand left to fix it if there is a problem!
ive learnt alot since ive been on the PH forum (and renlist for that matter), and wished i had known most of it before buying, I think you will have a better understanding of porsche ownership than i did when i bought, but dont get the wrong impression, it aint all bad
