Does anyone have any accurate fuel consumption figures for these cars. I looked on YouTube for some reviews but the information is conflicting to say the least...

Here we have a lady who is shocked by her 440i only getting 16.3mpg at 65mph...
https://youtu.be/8Vq99V0T_VI?t=41

But here we have a guy who gets 41.2mpg in a 440i on the motorway and speculates that he might have got 45 with the cruise control off...
https://youtu.be/EseyEXJ6CFc?t=649

Yet here, the same guy only gets 39.7mpg in a 420i on the motorway, though this is an X-Drive, would that make a difference?...

While here someone gets 46.1mpg in a 420i just driving around town, not even on a motorway...

I'm after an F32 4 Series at some point and was only really considering a 420i, but if I can get 40mpg+ in a 440i at a steady 70 then I might be tempted as I'd love to scratch my inline-six itch!

Figures from my 440i coupe on recent round trip to London.

I get 30mpg as an average which is a balanced mix of town, A & B roads and motorway. I also never use Stop/Start or Eco Pro - more a 50/50 mix of Sport & Comfort.

It’s an amazingly efficient power train considering the performance on offer.

I use Fuelly.com to keep an accurate record of consumption of my cars.

Mine is a 435i not 440i but the latter are generally a bit better on fuel. Over 36000 miles, I’ve averaged 31mpg. Best tank was just over 40, which was a gentle cruise across Europe.

If you look on Fuelly you can look up real world owners accurate mpg figures, just make sure you switch it to uk mpg as it defaults to us mpg and their gallons are considerably smaller!

I should have also added - a colleague has a 430i and can’t quite hit my figures, which is crazy when you think about it.

My 440i on a 80mph run (at French limits) on a traffic free autoroute got 450 miles to a tank at comfort after a period of cruising at that speed (when mileage to full up indicator uses previous ride to compute likely range)

When driving about town with lots of acceleration / braking / sometimes in Sport mode etc I’m starting to think about looking for a petrol station after hitting 280 miles.

£100+ to fill up will always hurt but it all depends on driving style and roads.

I find this to be fairly accurate guide. I usually get a couple of mpg more than what is quoted, but suspect my driving style and rural journeys help.

Recently got 550 miles to a tank from my 440i on a long run, worked out to around 46mpg. Around town and mixed driving is high 20’s, maybe 30 at best.

The B58 is a brilliant all round engine smile

Thanks all - plenty of useful intel there. Looks like a 440i is more efficient than my E36 318is!

My M140i averaged 28mpg over the two years I had it which included long runs, shirt trips and more spirited fun drives out.

On a long motorway run it was pretty frugal but that changed very quickly if you used the power or were in traffic.

I had a 420i F36 xDrive average 33mpg, a M235i average 29mpg, and F57 Mini average only 42mpg, I have no idea how a 420i average 46.1mpg around town

Low 40's easily achievable in the 440 (and slightly heavier GC) on the m'way if you're feathering it most of the way. Maybe not today in the fuel protests though biggrin
