Fuel price protests 4/7/22 (M4/M5/M48)
Discussion
Fuel price protests planned on Monday in the Bristol/Newport area. Major disruption to M4, M5, M48, M32 etc. expected:

I'm not sure that the nature of the protest quite fits with the aim of the protest. The issue at hand is the high cost of fuel, which ultimately discourages vehicle use. Is it therefore a good idea to hold up traffic, increase fuel use and (possibly) suggest that the world might be a better place if we depended on vehicles less and walked or cycled more?
Possibly on the A12 around Colchester as well - https://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/20245775.will-...
Although given that it's just something circulating on Facebook it's possible no one will actually show up.

I hope this falls flat even though I'm not planning to drive on any motorways tomorrow. I have always been against blockading motorways by XR and their offshoots on the grounds that there is a difference between lawful protest and coercive protest ("Give us what we want or we'll bring the country to a standstill") which is straight blackmail whether it is XR or a bunch of truckers doing it. No government is going to give in to blackmail, so this kind of protest is just causing a lot of hassle for people just trying to get to work etc, for no useful purpose.Although given that it's just something circulating on Facebook it's possible no one will actually show up.
If these protests do actually materialise it will be interesting to see how the police handle them. Will they offer the protesters a nice cup of tea, and stop the traffic to help facilitate their protest?

Protest planned for A23/M23/M25 as well apparently.
AceLet's ruin people's day over prices set by something external to the UK
The brainlets from the local "car cruise" club organised one up here the other week, going slow 100 miles down the A1 to Wetherby services and back, irony being it cost them petrol to do that, then to fill their cars back up again when they got home, and all it did was inconvenience people in exactly the same social level and situation as them.
This thread found on sky news shows the level of brains involved.
Posted himself using his phone while driving, hardly any of the cars turned up, they have no idea where they were going and managed to miss the turn off for the M32 into Bristol !

The tax at that time was approx 81p per litre.
The tax per litre of fuel is now approx 84p.
And given individual consumption on average is probably down by a few percent, people are probably paying the same tax on fuel than they previously were.

VAT has risen from about 23p to 33p own fuel. So even with the reduction in fuel duty everyone is paying more tax at £2 than when it was £1.35 (ish).
So the chancellor certainly has room to reduce rates. But he does nothing because he is clueless/lightweight.
