C6 RS6 2009 5.0 V10 Twin Turbo
Discussion
Late to the party as always…time to cover 2 years in 1 post!
I have always had Audis from 2016 onwards…Going from an A3 up to an A4 and across to a B8.5 S4. I had the S4 for 3 years and 50,000 miles when it was stolen from a Hilton hotel car park. It appeared 8 weeks later abandoned in a field off of the M1, but I had already been paid out so that was that. Here’s a link to the thread for that:
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Fast forward to now and my hand was forced into buying a cheap run about whilst the insurance payout was sorted. Behold a B6 Passat PD140. It’s been a great daily so far with a 70L tank and averaging 48mpg combined - should of got a cheap daily years ago!

Having this daily allowed me to be particularly foolish with the choice of my next Audi. A one trick “fast in a straight line” pony that I’ve always had my eye on wanting to own one day.
The car in question is a C6 RS6 Avant in Mugello Blue. I was particularly lucky to be the highest bidder, Winning the car for a touch below market value on “Collecting Cars”. (Even when you take into account the 6% fee!).
The car has some great optional extras such as Solar Sunroof, Carbon Ceramics, Adaptive Cruise and reversing camera. I was amazed adaptive cruise was actually an option in 2008/9!
Here’s some pictures - more to follow in another post. Thanks for reading.

No matter how old these get, one will always be in my fantasy garage. A proper heart over head choice - especially with todays fuel prices!
Nicely done, looks great in Mugello. I briefly had a stint in an S6 of this vintage (non-Avant) and I could only imagine what that powerplant is like with two turbos strapped to it. Please do let us (me!) know how you get on - very interested in this curio of a family wagon.

I went to view the car before bidding through Collecting Cars. As far I know all other bidders hadn’t been to view the car! When I viewed it I found the car had a full Milltek Catback system on which would of been quite old given it had the old style quad tips they used to use.
An easy job was to order new oval Milltek tips to bring the system up to date. I also got some new powerflex exhaust hangers to help get it sitting a little higher

The history of the car seems pretty good. Both common issues of the oil drive seal and drivers side coolant lines were resolved in 2016 and 2018. Plenty of other items covered at the same time as these such as:
- New upper control arms
- New engine mounts
- New rear lights (I presume to replace faded ones)
- New control module for the DRC suspension
The car has full service history as you’d expect with the type of car it is - the invoices add up to frightening amounts!
Since owning the car I’ve covered around 2500 miles in it. In that time I have had my local specialist complete the following works.
- Oil change to Millers Nanodrive 5w-40 with genuine filter
- Full gearbox service
- Coolant flush/change
- Brake fluid flush/change
- new OE spec plugs and coilpacks

When looking for a C6 I always had it in mind that I would be taking a visit to MRC Tuning like I did with my B8 S4. It’s similar to the S4 in that a stage 2 tune with some simple bolt ons makes for a dramatic value for money difference in power!
My S4 made 474ps and 597nm and drove great with the 7-speed DSG box. It was quicker off the mark than the C6 would be without effort. I think the C6 can be quicker from a standing start but you have to really have no mechanical sympathy at all. The now age-ing 6-speed ZF box is absolutely fine for normal spirited driving but perhaps not so much for trying 0-60 times. At “higher” speeds, the RS6 builds speed like the S4 never could.
Anyways, off I went to MRC Tuning on June 1st. Booked in for a stage 2 package involving the following:
- secondary cat delete (replaced with supersprint straight through sections to join to the Milltek resonated system).
- BMC race air filters (hence why I hadn’t had the air filters changed previously)
- gearbox and engine tune
With the bolt on’s the car made 586ps and 653nm so pretty much bang on what it should be.
Tuned it made 744ps and 1010nm. The difference in how it drives is staggering! Peak torque is made at around 2500rpm and held until around 5500rpm. The dyno graph actually looks like a supercharged car as the turbos are very linear and continue to build power right up to 7000rpm.

On a separate note - MPG
15mpg pushing on/town driving
23mpg on a run at 70-80mph
24/25mpg on a run at 60mph
It’s not outrageous given the power on hand!
Hopefully this video links okay for the sound (which is a bit underwhelming given its a V10!!)

So that’s pretty much up to date so far.
I’ve given the car a few good cleans but it really needs a full detail, paint correction and also some bodywork. Most notably:
- The rear bumper and bootlid have been painted in the past and the finish isn’t great. I intend to get these re-done along with some other smaller bits to be sorted like paint missing on the edges of doors.
- The front bumper isn’t fitting perfectly. This seems a common issue as many have had the bumper off in the past for big jobs.
- the leather seats (most notably the drivers side upper bolster) need some love. Unsure on what the best approach is for this at the moment though.
One good thing is that the wheels were refurbed just before I purchased the car and it seems a great quality job. It helps that the carbon ceramic brakes don’t produce any brake dust at all!

Pirelli P Zeros wouldn’t be my first choice but the fronts have 6mm tread so I’ll see them out before getting some Michelin PS4S
The interior is in great condition if you ignore the drivers side bolster

So a summary of my ownership so far:
- Outrageously fast in a straight line.
- You are made fully aware it weighs over 2 tons; especially on a B road
- I am patiently waiting for my first big failure/bill to pay. It’s a case of when, not if!

It picks up speed like air resistance doesn’t exist! I can only like it once or twice a week at the moment as it’s all I can afford with current fuel prices!Nicely done, looks great in Mugello. Has to be the most epic estate that'll ever be made though.
These are pretty cool.
My uncle had one on grey a while ago; it was totally stock but still felt bloody quick to me. The way it built speed above 100 was bloody staggering. Yours must be very, very impressive. I remit liking a drink too.
As you say, the weight is very noticeable in corners and under braking but it’s still pretty impressive.
His went shortly after a very big bill.

60p per mile in fuel alone would mean it's only a Sunday special car for me, which negates the point of the awesome practicality of the thing.

Yes it's a bit of a catch 22. It's my more practical car that I rarely use haha.Has to be the most epic estate that'll ever be made though.

Agreed, the brakes are better than expected. The handling is worse than expected! My uncle had one on grey a while ago; it was totally stock but still felt bloody quick to me. The way it built speed above 100 was bloody staggering. Yours must be very, very impressive. I remit liking a drink too.

that must make a monster overtaking machine. Lovely colour as well subtle and under the radar missile!
