Getting caught abroad what happens?
Discussion
OK, I live in Germany and have recently been caught speeding in my German company car, at ehem... over 40mph too fast. (allowed 80kmh, was doing 140kmh).... according to the German fines system, that means 3-5 points €140-175 and 1-3 months ban.
What to do? Can I tell them my UK address as according to my Drivers Licence (Where I havent lived for 5 years), and hope it goes away, or should I tell them where I actually live...
What happens to the points and ban if I do give them the current details?
Can anyone help

If you didn't live in Germany, then you could give your UK address and get away with it - providing you weren't planning on visiting too often.
However, as you live in Germany, and are likely to get caught again - I'd caution you against giving your UK address. Unless you're planning on changing your car

If you've been in Germany for a long time, shopuld you not have already exchanged your UK licence for a Kraut one?
No, in the EU now you don't have to exchange your licence unless:-
a) Your current Licence is not a Photocard Licence
b) Your current Licence has expired
c) Your current Licence is from a new EU Country (Eastern European Countries).
This rule came in in 1992...!! The Kraut's always try to enforce non-EU conform rules!! But if you read up on it you can always argue!!

Not for much longer;

The EU is to make speeding and parking fines applicable EU-wide.
Well, we're going to be screwed big time, especially if you visit countries like Spain where much of the police force is both racist and corrupt (where you can get a 1000 Euro fine just for being British). I guess large numbers of British holidaymakers had better enjoy their drives in Spain, they may be their last for a few years if my experience is anything to go by!
P.s. In case anyone's wandering, I'm talking from personal experience here of myself and dozens of other cases.

Radarfalle is a useful website only if you are a German and are thick enough to not know the current fines catalogue... I know what would happen if I was German or had a German Licence.. the problem is that I want to know what will happen if you have a non-german licence. The EU has not yet agreed on passing points between member states. I heard from the AA that if you get a ban in a member state generally it is for minimum of 1 year due to non-state licences.. This is why I am worried...
In Germany they are not as flexible in the UK where you can argue you need your licence for work and therefore take more points and a bigger fine!!
In Germany your employer has to arrange a temporary driver at your cost!, or you have to prove that you are not able to use public transport / your company will suffer from the lack of flexibility etc etc.. This all has to be done in writing! I am not sure that my company would do such a thing, that is why I am going for the good old lying about my status technique to win time, and give the German state a paperwork mess, hoping that they will give up due to cost...
Oh well have to wait and see, maybe my heavy braking at the point of being caught, will pay off and nothing will come.

'A friend of mine' got a months ban when he lived in Germany, speeding on the autobahn!!!!
He gave his UK address and was only banned in Germany and kind of forgot to tell his UK based insurers. Nothing further was said, no UK points nothing.
That was about 1998 though, may all be European now!!
