Been reading the other 993 Aircon thread. Mine has never worked. Does anyone know of a real Porsche aircon guru within 30 miles of central London? I'm sure most Porsche specialists sub this work to 'Aircon man in a van'.

Errr, how long is never? How long have you had the car? What you need to do is put in a partial fill of gas in the system and see if the compressor comes back to life. This will cost you pennies (my local specialist charged me £20).
If the compressor works with minimal pressure then you've got to figure out if it's leaking or not. If it is leaking from the condenser or seals it'll cost ya', but if not then you just need a full charge of gas (around £90 from my chap) and away you go.

AFAIK a condenser is about £300 and a compressor about £450, full set of seals about £300 (inc labour). This is from an air con specialist who are local to me (Reading).

I think that's about 40 miles from central london (junction 10, M4).

mine had worked,,,but had got worse over the last couple of years.
I had a full vacuum & regas for 60 quid,,,the system got down to 4 degrees c in the cabin when on max boost.
All seems fine a month later.

I have some friends who have a good car bodyshop, I asked for the number of the guy they use....seemed better than taking pot luck in the yellow pages.

I've had a car 2.5 years, it's never worked. Had it checked and re-gassed by a travelling bloke - Aircon One. Great name but it only worked for a day! Never got round to calling him to complain.

I go to a chap calling himself Auto SOlutions, based in Wembley. Trustworthy, reliable, not expensive, and willing to travel.

He replaced the corroded evaporator in my 993's air-con, which is a very fiddly job. Now works perfectly.

Make sure you get some dye added to the system when they re gas, it makes finding any leaks much easier in the future!

Hi Piers

I took my RS to JZ Machtech a couple of months back for an AC regass and chatted to the bloke they had in that days to regass the cars whilst he did mine. He seemed very knowledgable and thorough and did a good job. He used to work for either Machtech or JZ before they amalgamated, so he certainly knows his Porsches.

Via a bit of detective work I've managed to find out who he is (I thought it bad form to ask as I was standing on JZ Machtech's forecourt at the time...) and he is Steve Angell of Aircool AC Ltd. From his website (www.aircool.biz) I see that his normal patch is Herts, Beds and Bucks, so maybe you'd need to drive North a bit and meet him halfway.

I have no affiliation, but I wouldn't hesitate to use him again myself and you can't say fairer than that.

Regards

Nigel
