Sale of cars after death of owner

A lady friend of mine lost her husband last year and he had a couple of old cars which were in need of some attention before he died. The cars have been kept under cover but have not been used nor started for a few years. My friend wants to dispose of these cars and has asked me to help her to move them on. As I understand, both cars were "runners" but neither have MOTs.
I am therefore seeking the advice of forum users as to the best options available to dispose of these 2 cars with the minimum amount of hassle because there is a sentimental connection for my friend and the 2 cars.
I would appreciate any advice and help that anyone can give me as to how I can help my friend painlessly part with these cars..

Sory for the loss, I've recently lost my Mum and was shocked to discover the DVLA have changed their rules re Car owners. On the death of the registered owner you must re-register the car immediately in a new name and re-tax or reSORN. My brother and I did not want a Honda Jazz and adding another owner would devalue the car so we sold it to Cazoo. There seems no issue selling a car as long as you have death certificate and will naming you as heir.
I don't know what grace period the DVLA offer on not re-registering, we took almost a month and they get told when you use the tell all option so don't leave making a decision too long.

When my mum died I transferred her cars into my name by scribbling something in the keeper's signature section on the V5s. As far as I know, the DVLA still don't know (or care) that she died. Adding another owner had zero effect on value. You could just sell them on here by explaining what cars they are as having seen it here first you might find they're interesting to people and you'll save a load of hassle. If they're just a Dawooo Matiz and a Proton 3-valve then I don't think anyone will be interested... but if it's something interesting you might be lucky and find someone much more easily than you had expected.
