How to find out speeding convictions over 4 years old
Discussion
Hi,
I'm now getting insurance quotes and being asked what motoring convictions I've had in the last 5 years. The licence check on the Government website shows convictions going back 4 years, with 3 years being active. How can I find out the 5th year points that I got, are these recorded anywhere?

Since you are asking the question, I presume that you know that you have old convictions on your record.I'm now getting insurance quotes and being asked what motoring convictions I've had in the last 5 years. If you don't have the original conviction / points paperwork filed away, perhaps you could look at your previous years insurance documents, as you would have been required to declare the points previously.
Who's asking you for 5 years? Is it a comparison website or is it an actual insurance company? If the former, then they are only asking so the data they collect will satisfy the largest possible set of insurers' requirements.
So just give info for the last three years and if you like any quotes, proceed to the insurer's website. You'll then be expected to go through the provided information to confirm that it's correct. If that insurer doesn't ask for point information dating back more than three years (most don't in my experience) then you're good to go.

If the endorsement is over 4 years old, is it not the case that you are not obliged to mention it? It is no longer valid. I'm excluding endorsements for drink driving offences.
I think the rehabilitation of offenders act says basic 3 point motoring offences are disclosable for 5 years. Or 2.5 years if you were under 18 at the time of the offence. Another check you might get a result from is bank statements. Look for payments for fines/ course etc. That might jog your memory of what they were for.
If you have details of up to 3/4 years then searches need only be on the years prior to that. A bit tedious scrolling through statements though! I have done it a couple of times for purchase dates of items to check warranty deadlines when unable to find paperwork/ manuals/ receipts that I usually keep.
I have a folder for car docs ( insurance etc) that has key dates on paperwork that help with future needs. Just basic docs to show a history, usually single pages.
Similar for other bought items.
