I’m not normally a reader of TopGear, but i did read this review-

The comment that made me smile was this:-

The carbon-backed seats look amazing and are surprisingly comfortable but the bit you look at – the dash itself – is frankly out of touch. In a car costing well in excess of a quarter of a million quid, the small, stuck-on central display has aged badly, and the centre console looks like someone filled a shotgun with buttons and then just fired it at the dashboard.

The irony is that i prefer buttons to a touch screen like a Tesla … you can’t please all the people all the time….

Buttons are best, but they should be well ordered.

The DB9 has perhaps more buttons that I have ever seen in a car, but many are about 10 x 5mm with illegible writing. It's the most un-ergonomic, un-useful interior ever, but it looks great, and hey, it's an Aston

Take a look at a Volvo v70 with the optional phone - or Merc and they had gazillions of buttons, i always thought the db9 wasn't too bad - but then i had forgotten the slim ones on the radio area lol

And they are correct, the Vantage dash is a mess, I cannot not see Darth Vadar staring back at me whenever I look at it. That doesn't necessarily mean the journalist prefers the 28" Argos TV screen dominating the mantlepiece of a Tesla simply that the design of the buttons in the Aston is naff.

It's difficult for Aston to do anything to change what is old Mercedes technology. Maybe a little more thought into the design of where buttons lay would have been good however, like most others here, I'm not technophobe but touch screens take longer the navigate than knowing where a button is to my mind hence, it cannot be any safer using a touchscreen over a dash with buttons.

I also prefer the dash in the latest Vantage to the boredom of something like a Tesla dash or that of the MachE etc.

I would agree. Additionally, a silver V12 badge and some different seats, which Adam recently said are now available on the lesser Vantage models, is not really good enough at this price point imho. Fair enough, from the outside the differences are clear for everyone to see, but inside, it’s a totally different story. With regards to the rumoured updates for next year, I am no expert, but I would have thought that interior changes may be at the easier/cheaper end of the spectrum. I guess we will find out soon enough.

Touchscreens are less safe than buttons. You cannot navigate a touchscreen without taking your eyes off the road however one can find key buttons on the dash without looking. The fad for touchscreens is promote by manufacturers simply because it is cheaper for them to build and to upgrade, one screen fits all variations and specifications.
