Was just checking a few suss cars that never move out of a residential car park, nice working getting tax on a vehicle with no MOT for 7 years I'm sure I'm missing something

Sorry if I have the wrong section feel free to move it.

Its a fiat Scudo and a taxi the guy has a couple taxis..
Then it’s likely MOT’d as commercial and that doesn’t always show on the gov site. I suspect the tax is just paid by DD, too but unsure what checks are done before applying the tax status when payments are automatic. V8 Bob said:
Is it an old car? Vehicles over 40 years can be changed to Historic and don’t need an MOT but still need to be taxed..at nil cost.
Its a 2008 and had a atleast 1 mot fail every year until 2015 when it's stopped.Possibly a Hackney carriage though bit far from being used in London though lol maybe he's on a break.

I would guess the tax is paid by direct debit.
If the MoT has expired, the VED will not renew. My neighbour gone done for no tax despite paying by d/d, unknowingly, because the MoT had expired and the direct debit for VED wasn't taken.
If it is a hackney cab with regular safety checks, fair enough. But I'm not sure how you can buy VED, if their database is showing expired MoT?

Me neither, DVLA cancel your VED by direct debit once MOT runs out on a normal car, happen to me a few months ago when DVLA failed to follow my advised written request they sorn car a month then re-tax with all paperwork sent in correct, this was to refresh tax for 12 months before MOT expired on a modified car intended to be displayed on land that falls under VED legislation.

Avoiding lifting car & moving it with free clamp was the intent.
If there is a trick I'd like to know it, had advice to shove it down throats with postal orders until trade plate sorted to play it safe.
