Walking out of London via Epping Forest on Saturday and looking for a late lunch stop in Epping before heading back. Any suggestions for a decent pub lunch?

We'll be passing the Forest Gate but the menu looks a bit ham egg and chips (which is absolutely fine by me, the lady not so much).

I've not been to the Forest Gate but Haywards restaurant next door is superb and is owned by the same family.

Other than that I don't know of a decent pub lunch. I normally end up in Wildwood in the High St.

George & Dragon on the High St's OK - although it's pub food.

Friend-of-a-friend owns a Thai restaurant on the High Street, Lan Naa Thai (131 High Street, near the church/St Johns Road). Not sure it's open for lunch though.

Yeah, George & Dragon is consistently good.

It's a chain, but Wildwood is to be recommended and is never particularly busy. It's in the big unit where Unico used to be (opposite the old police station and Church's butchers for anyone who remembers).

There's a great independent Italian in the small parade of shops next to St John's Church as well, I think it's next door to the aforementioned Lan Naa Thai place actually.

Yes Wildwood is fine. There are also a couple of nice country pubs but require a drive out of the town.

Can also vouch for the George & Dragon.

Had a NYE celebrations there too, which was fun.

Thanks all, after all that we're going to Oxfordshire instead but will be in Enfield the following weekend. Will give Haywards a go.
