Due to take go on holiday tomorrow with the caravan and guess what the cars broke! Had it in for a service this week and they replaced the rear discs and pads, since then it's been fine. Went out to the car before and when i pressed the fob to open the car there was a horrible whine from the engine bay area. I'm now not able to release the electronic handbrake. Timing of this couldn't be worse.

I can't imagine that you are going to fix it overnight. I'd have thought your best bet is to speak to the garage nicely as soon as they open in the morning.

Yeah, I've tried using the emergency release but no joy. It's saying on the dash parking brake failed.

I’ve had 2 x E70 X5’s and both had this problem. The emergency release needs a really strong pull to release the brake. Really strong! After that the car is perfectly driveable until you get it repaired. Will cost about £1k to fix.

thanks, Chris. I got it recovered to the garage this morning, they fixed it in 5 mins on the computer 'apparently'. He then said he's used handbrake numerous times to check and its working fine. Bet you can guess how many times I've tried it, seen as I'm now away with the caravan for the week! It'll be getting left in park on the flat until i get home.
