I have a couple of questions about a brake upgrade I'm planning on my 944S2.

1. Are the front hubs on the 944S2 the same as the 968, non M030?
2. Has anybody on here fitted Mk1 GT3 calipers ( 4pot ) to their 944 / 968?

I just need to try and save some time designing a mounting bracket, if someone has already BTDT then it would be a great help. Or is there a bracket availabe off the shelf, I've found a couple of American sites that do brackets for the 996 monoblocks but the GT3 caliper has different hole spacing, 142mm against 130mm on the monoblocks.

I think you are going to find this quite a challenge.

I spent a long time considering a similar upgrade (though actually I was looking at the 928GTS/9933tt calipers) and discovered the following:

1. the S2 has the same brakes as the (older) 220bhp turbo
2. you can upgrade to the 250 turbo brakes but will require either adaptors or struts from a 250
3. if you want to go to the 993tt brakes you also need 17" wheels (not sure about M030)

In the end I decided to simply overhaul my existing brakes (which frankly are not half bad to start with). A full caliper overhaul (steam clean; remove corrosion; new pistons, seals, backing plates and pads; repaint) plus braided hoses; new cross-drilled discs and new top quality fluid has produced brakes that are superb.

However, it was not cheap.

It will be a piece of cake, trust me!!

I've already overhauled my std calipers a couple of times and they need doing again now, along with new discs and pads. When these calipers came up at the right money I decided I'd take the plunge. I know I'll need 17" wheels and I'm planning on using the 965 3.6 Turbo discs, at 322mm x 32mm these will bolt straight onto the S2 hubs. The only thing I need is a mounting bracket to convert from axially to radially mounted calipers. I have the ability to design / manufacture this myself but at the moment there are not enough hours in the day so I was hoping I could pinch someone else's design!!

Why bother re-inventing the wheel? We make the radial/axial conversion brackets & location rings to fit Big Red calipers and 993TT discs straight onto the 968/944S2 stub axles, using the TT disc because it has less offset. The price of the brackets & rings is £200 a set in annodised black finish, plus VAT & carriage.

Have a look over on the 968 forum aswell... there are more 968's with big brakes than there are 944's...

fesuvious which pads have you got?

I've got drilled Brembo's on the front and Im running Mintex 1155's all round with ATE racing blue fluid.

I've just ordered some 968 cooling scoops as well so I'll need to get them fitted.

oh yeah Im local to Shirleys.. are you a midlander?

Today, I will mostly be stopping very quickley!!



The reason I went for these is that my car needs new discs and pads pretty soon and the calipers want overhauling, the dreaded plate lift has struck again. The dust seals can only be bought from Porsche and they are V.expensive, so when these calipers came up at the right money ( and I mean the right money! ) I snapped them up.
All I've got to do now is get the mounting brkt sorted out. I'll keep you posted.

Which way around is that disk fitted i.e. is that pic the drivers side or pass side?

Secondly does it make a difference which way around they are fitted?

Not sure which one is in the picture, but they are handed. So yes it does make a difference.

Would appreciate your reasoning - I have this very setup but have been told that this is the wrong way around...

My "reasoning" is that all track-oriented Porsches I've seen have the holes of the left side disc (front and rear) oriented this way. I've never seen one the other way round.

The disc in the picture is the left one.

So whats the car you've fallen i love with on E-bay??

Andy is right. The airflow comes from the back of the disk into the central hub and should go out through the vents. These are angled to help 'suck' the air through as the wheel rotates.

When I first bought my M030 car the disk were on the wrong way round (fitted by a Porsche specialist too).
