Bound to happen - Clipped the garage :(

Well that’s my mark on the car done, bound to happen at some point!

Was so careful on the near side mirror the front wing was just at the wrong angle.

Just caught it, and you get that sinking feeling, anyway last time I did it in the other car , I got out and it was a mess

But it could have been much worse



So it’s fibreglass so won’t rust, still looks lovely but could have been much worse

So I feel another trip to the garage! Although I am tempted to get it done at Works next year as part of the mot and service work

any advice and what to with it in the interim etc would be most welcome, I doubt there is a touch up paint pot! Lol

Any experience of doing the same and getting it fixed, would be most welcome

Given Aston tax , I think 800 quid maybe to get it fixed

Car still looks lovely!

Astonmartinbits sell genuine touch-up paints - not cheap at around £50, but you should be able to make the scratch look far less obvious until you get it dealt with properly

£800 is trade ish price for a front end respray so I’d say it depends where you take it.

I’d be hesitant to just spray one wing as it’ll probably be noticeable though.

So sorry to hear that - hope you can make it look reasonable in the meanwhile.

Perhaps worth considering some kind of garage widening or modification of the part that you feel sticks out or is hard to navigate. It could easily pay for itself in the long run.

Chipex are very good and they do many of the Aston colours too, I have bought one or two in the past myself.

I would love a double garage but that’s not a possibility but I think I will get some kind of foam or something just for the pillars as I go in and out , get the touch up and then get works to fix next year

I am quite okay with, I thought I would be very unhappy but it’s not the end of the world and fixable but I think cause it’s second hand, she has imperfections, like my second wife but you just get on!

Could have been so much worse but car still looks lovely

I will get the touch up and post my progress!!

Works did a chip on my DB9 a few years ago, I forget the cost but it was not excessive and was totally invisible (on a Storm Black which is hard).

Tough break Kev - my sympathies. When something like that happens (and I've had three or four minor "incidents") it almost physically hurts.

I've always found nailing bits of carpet to the walls of various garages I've had worked well. Anyone who's had new carpets laid usually has a bundle of offcuts somewhere like up in the loft. Bang a few cut nails through pieces of carpet half-way into the brick then hammer the nails over to lock the carpet into place and prevent the nails pulling through (obviously positioning the nails where they cannot be contacted by the car). Carpet is both soft and tough. Preferably not foam-backed carpet.

I caught on the frame of the door , there was a bracket that is slightly stuck out
On the other side this bracket is a few centimetres less wide

So I have bent the offending bracket back so hopefully won’t hit it again!!!

+1 for carpet Kev. My garage has it down both sides. Don’t think I have ever brushed it but at least I can swing the doors open with abandon!

Just remember, once it is fixed, it never happened.

Most people would have taken the cheap option and bent the bracket back with a hammer. Using one's Aston for the job is much more stylish.

Slightly but that would mean a new electric door, but the funds have dried up at the mo!!

But it’s on the list, getting the clutch done in 8 days , so once that is sorted it’s a possibility

Put the frame of the door behind the pillars, it might cost more, but it gives you a few precious inches.

Something I planned for when we moved into our current home as I wanted the extra 3 or 4 inches hahaha!

The neighbours had theirs done and it does give you a bit extra

I need to be more careful as well

On the plus side, there were 2 grazing marks on the top of the boot where the tailgate covers when closed, and today managed to polish one out completely and the other is much less noticeable

It’s all part of the journey, only had it 8 weeks but it’s lovely to have one, even with a slight mishap, but hopefully get the scratch sorted out so she looks her best at the Heritage Trust event, which will be my first as an owner
