Right, planning on taking the bird away in October for a week..
1) We don't want to sit on the beach all week
2) I'm not the greatest fan of cities
3) Can't be more than 3 or 4 hours flight away
4) Not too hot, not too cold
5) Somewhere interesting, a bit different
Any ideas guys..
And there is a prize for the first person to mention that tower.

Walking in the Italian Alps, fly into Milan 1.5hrs, 2hrs on the train to Domodossola, take your pick of Mt resort, we love Macugnaga, lovely in the Autumn, clear air, amazing scenery, great food and wine after a days walking. And on the way back the optional days shopping in Milan, which I guarentee your Mrs will love.
OH YES !Well as I write this I'm sitting on the veranda of my srateroom on the Grand Princess. We were in Monaco yesterday, where we walked the F1 circuit. Yesterday Pisa & Florence. Right now, on my balcony, I'm sitting with my PDA reading PH, with a glass of red wine - with Vesuvias dominating the view. It doesn't get any better, Charlie, I think I'm in Heaven! 
Maybe a bit predictable but Almeria in Southern Spain offers sun, a change of climate from sunny to snow as you drive up into the Sierra Nevada mountains, they have some absolutely stunning scenery, empty roads, little or no policing.
To cap it all, if you visit The Alhambra Palace in Granada which costs a monumental £8, you should drive up the Sierra Nevada mountain nearby where they always seem to be testing new prototypes. I saw the 5 new Golf GTi months before it's launch, the Peugeot 407 SW in full disguise (for which a magazine kindly stumped up £100) and I think someone else saw scooped the Bentley GT there. There was one other I've forgotten.
A trip along the coast to the Parc Cabot de Nijar will yield a few flamingoes and some stunning coastal scenery and it's all very very cheap. I've been to India, Zanzibar and many other places but unspoilt Andalucia still takes some beating.
