XBox or PS for racing games?
Discussion
Hi all,
I've not done any gaming since selling my Nintendo 64 about 20 years ago...
I do a bit of real life racing and would benefit from learning the UK tracks a bit better, so want to get wheel and pedals and spend some time with Project Cars. I'll probably also get F1 2022 for some fun, but I'll only be playing an hour a week or so.
I have no idea which console I should be after, nor whether I want to download the games or buy discs... Any advice?!
Thanks!

Xbox Series S is your cheapest option. Project cars 2 will have most the British tracks. From memory it has brands, Oulton, Donington, Silverstone, Snetterton and knockhill.
That console is download only though, but I'd imagine project cars 2 should be quite cheap now.
I'd personally go for a PC but that's more expensive, although I'd go for Assetto Corsa if playing on PC over project cars.

If you want to get serious about sim racing, you'll need to spend over £1,500 on a gaming pc and the best part of £1,000 on a decent wheel, but that's a hell of a lot if you're only going to be using it for an hour a week.
Playstation 5 or Playstation 5 Digital are still hard to get hold of, and you might have to buy a bundle that includes games or accessories that you don't want.
X-Box Series X (£450) or X-Box Series S (£260) are readily available now. The Series S has some limitations to graphics and storage space, as well as no DVD drive. Buying digital games from the download store can be more expensive than buying the physical disc, but some games are available on the game pass subscription service. If you're only interested in a handful of games, the purchase cost of games and the Series S's limited storage might not be a big concern to you.
You could look at a second hand X-Box One X, but even if you don't want the latest graphics I'd want a Series X or Series S for the loading speeds - the old consoles can be frustratingly slow to load levels or maps.
I'd suggest that you get the X-Box Series S and a Logitech steering wheel, just because its the cheapest option. Either you won't use it and won't have wasted too much money, or you'll get the sim racing bug and want to do a lot more research and spend a small fortune.

Personally I'd say G920, Omega GT Stand and an Xbox One X or the Series X if you can afford it.
Forza 7 is a good arcade sim to first start using a wheel on and is very forgiving.
F1 2022 requires more skill with the inputs.
You'll be set for new new Forza Motorsport when it comes out in Spring next year. Only other thing I'd suggest is to start saving up for a LG C2 TV for 120fps or the older C1. Or go for a smaller gaming monitor if you have a specific gaming set-up area (I use my TV for Xbox in Living Room).
Edit to add you've just missed the Prime Day Sale on the G920 - Was £160 new...
