I have been separated from my wife since 2008, not divorced, long story for another time.

Things have been reasonable moneywise and I've always paid the amount for child maintenance according to the government website as well as extra costs like education, house repairs etc.

My question is that as we co own the house ie the mortgage, is this included in the child maintenance or should I continue to pay half the mortgage on top in order to still co own the house, so to speak.

The payments have jumped up recently due to interest rate rises and are making a mockery of my well budgeted joint account.

Looks like I'll have to stretch myself even further despite having difficulty covering my own rent and bills.

Am I not right in thinking all that matters is who’s names are on the deeds - if you paid nothing towards it and it was tenants in common with a 50:50 or just joint ownership still 50:50.
