Not my knees, but they also creak.

Thoughts on creaking / squeaking over bumpy surfaces? Definitely surface related rather than drivetrain. I'm thinking suspension bushes, engine / gearbox mounts potentially? Doesn't sound life threatening (and fresh MOT last week) but would like to resolve.

Suspension bushes, if you have polycarbonate bushes, they creak. Dampers can also do it.

I think most poly bush manufacturers supply silicone grease with them but you need to determine what you have first.

WD40, contrary to popular belief, is a water dispersant. So, excellent to spray all over the place where you don’t want water damage. I clean my chassis with WD40, plus spray on the hidden chassis bits in the wheel arches where they rust.

If you want to lubricate, try 3 in 1 spray oil, or similar.

If you spray WD40 on greased stuff, it actually washes the grease off. Such as bicycle crank bearings, it actually causes premature failure.

But, lubing stuff such as bushes, why not! Go for it!

Not sure if its the same on a Chim, but when I had my S3 it used to make all kinds of creaking noises on any kind of rough surfaces. Eventually I found that there were a load of small stones sitting on top of the outriggers and rubbing between there and the body. Cleared by running a paint scraper pushed up between the rigger and the body..

Also look at your front and rear drop links on your ARB’s.
They are a common cause of creaking when suspension is compressed / rebounding.

Hi, have a look at your exhaust. The flexi part is very close to the chassis and where the 2 pipes exit the backbox are also very close to the chassis.

You’d think they’d invent 5 more, just for the marketing.

I read somwehere that the 40 was reference to it being the 40th attempt to develop the right product.
Googled it:

WD-40 stands for Water Displacement, 40th formula. That's the name straight out of the lab book used by the chemist who developed the product. The first company to use WD-40 Multi-Use Product commercially was Convair, an aerospace contractor, to protect the outer skin of the Atlas Missile from rust and corrosion

Good tip re the spray oil - I was trying to get a door catch on another car to work properly yesterday and not for the first time felt that the WD40 I sprayed in had damn all effect.

So I have tracked down the squeak - it's coming from the radiator, offside. Not sure what it is rubbing against, or how involved a job it is to get in there. Certainly not trying it until the engine has cooled down hehe
