Advice on buying this car with its last MOT advice

Looking at buying this car and have been offered to pay £950 for it.

This is the latest MOT advisories:

Expiry date
8 March 2023
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Rear Brake pad(s) wearing thin (1.1.13 (a) (ii))
Nearside Rear Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))


Any thoughts?

Just checked with the reg on clickmechanic and the front brakes are around £100 and the rear brakes around £200. I will have a look later at the rear Springs.

For £950 it will be a Shed and those items are entirely reasonable. Obviously you'll challenge corroded rear springs on a 2 year old car.

there wont be a £900 car in the land with mint like new springs...its complete b.s all old snotters have some rust underneath

What car is it?

Some rear springs (2004 3 series, springs to mind) are really simple to change and cheap to buy.

Front disc pads should also be fairly cheap.

Buying at this end of the market, you really have to be able to do some jobs yourself, otherwise the money you save on buying a cheap car gets completely wiped out on the first visit to a garage.

Vauxhall Zafira, the bigger the better for me as can load all my st in it.

Surfboards, paddleboards, a dog etc... And as many friends, if I have any left

Perhaps it would also be worth investing in a fire extinguisher!

Other issue I have, it's a high insurance group and road tax is over £200 and for me I feel like it a a waste of money!

I just need a small, 0.9 litre - 1.4 litre LPG thing.

Can't find any anywhere!!!!!!!!

We are talking C1/aygo/107, fiat panda - my personal fav, Vauxhall Corsa/Astra, Citroen berlingo (1.6 or below) or Peugeot equivalent, or small engine Mazda 5?? My insurance is dirt cheap on that if the engines small.

Because those are the sort of cars loads of people are buying right now with fuel prices etc and they've always been in demand with youngsters anyway as first cars etc.

£200 tax isnt that bad.

and because 000000.1 % of aygo owners bother converting to lpg

wouldnt the £0-20 road tax offset the slight fuel savings a bit if you went for a small petrol car

Give spring a cleaning(sanding), bit of a spray if you like, likely just paints started to peel off and surface rust, change brake pads, not a big issue.

Advisories are recommendations to do now or budget for in future, if not mentioning things to cover back like, panels fitted so can't see brake line/oil gaskets in case leaking, or child seat fitted in case seatbelt ripped and hidden away etc...
