As we’re all aware - Car manufacturers warranties, and parts availability have been impacted by COVID (don’t see that as still producing/selling cars ok with some features on hold/removed) and then the Ukraine war where all it would seem 3/4 of the worlds wiring looms were made ….

Given the above - and yes modern manufacturing processes work on the ‘Just In Time’ - how long have you been waiting on parts so far ?

Mine as below

Manufacturer; BMW X3
Part; Telematics Control Unit (TCU)
Date: 03/02/2022 (> 4 months)
ETA: - none
Replacement car: Volvo XC40. From Enterprise Rental (I’m sure at a discounted price rather than the £5880 per month if you/I we’re renting)

If you’ve raised a complaint with manufacturer - feel free to put length hog reply and likely outcome..

Warranty replacement 'all weather' car mats!

Bought online (from BMW dealer) March 2015, fitted, and returned to same dealer within 2 days as the velcro fixing wasn't stitched to the driver-side mat as meant it wouldn't stay still.

Still waiting for my replacement...but dealer denies any knowledge of them!

I waited over a year for a Lotus Evora window regulator. I sold the car so who knows if I’d still be waiting

Neighbour with Diesel SLK still parked up since early winter, waiting on some main dealer part which he's already paid for.

Just hope it fixes the problem if and when it ever gets here.

SQ5 matrix headlight took over 10 months to come in stock. Longest I've known in my 17 years in the trade.
At one point our most common oil filters were on backorder. Along with gloves for technicians.

BMW F33 440i. Taken in October 2021, awaiting a new infotainment computer. Still there now, no ETA.

Courtesy car, none.

If they’re not helping you out with at least a courtesy car, I’d be looking to reject the vehicle.
That’s insane!

there's a couple of things you need to be doing to assist in the arrival of back ordered parts.

1) chase the partsman regularly, ensure that they have put the part on VOR, or other highest priority order. Often they don't do this because the car may not be immobile or the cost to do so means they make no money out of the part.

2) After a suitable period of time, raise a case with the manufacturers customer service team, they can lean on the dealer or the supplier to source the part. Ask them to consider alternatives like a 'line pick' i.e. you nab it from the assembly line.

3) Reject the car, normally gets a response.

4) Ensure your loaner is paid for by the OEM customer service team, that focusses minds as well.

5) if you have to, become a pain in the arse to do the dealer. Pop down once in a while and speak to the DP.

Funadamentally, if you aren't on it, it'll get forgotten about, parts people are parts people because they like parts, not people.

That is ridiculous - if under BMW warranty get onto BMW customer service and raise a complaint (unless car is within 6 months forget the finance dept lifting a finger BTW)

BMW UK/Dealer/Parts/Garage - they’re in the same boat effectively - beholden to BMW AIG whom own the sourcing of parts. So while I can see some benefit of reminding the garage you’re waiting on them, they’re waiting on BMW AIG in my
Case to source manufacturer/get part built/delivered etc

So got the car back yesterday (after an extra 40 minute wait even though I'd turned up 2 hrs after the "you're car will be ready by 1130 hrs" .....

So 4 months, and 27 days (149 days elapsed) since I last drove the car.

Hopefully a body else on here waiting on parts has a speedy resolution !!

My sisters Q5 was rear ended in August 2021. The bodyshop put in an order for parts and most arrived within a week. The tailgate and a few other parts arrived in Feb 2022. When everything was there, the bodyshop took 3 days to paint and repair.

Wife's car (Hyundai Ioniq) was rear ended last August. Due to "waiting on parts" we were in an enterprise hire car until 2 days before Xmas.

At the weekend, bought an i30 for the mother in law after her ageing Corolla snapped a driveshaft, the first failure in 7 years, which i fixed in 24 hours, but was thus deemed unrealible and needed moving on!. The i30 has a faulty window switch. Two examples in the small trader with the same fault, switches have been on back order for 3 months, no expectation we will see them in the next 3.
