Price of Boats Still in the Stratosphere?
Discussion
Looking at boats namely, an Axopar 28 Cabin, on the Axopar site basic list is 52k plus extras & VAT would be about 70k.
Second hand I’m seeing 6 year old 28’s at 110k!
Due to supply issues & the Covid can’t go on holiday hangover I assume.
Any people closer to the industry on here care to comment? Is this now normal or will it cool down?

But in answer to your question, the market is still strong and prices reflect that.
It would certainly seem that despite strong asking prices popular boats are still selling very quickly and the predicted post-Covid crash once people started holidaying again hasn't happened just yet.Not that many boats actually out on the water though this season and I'm wondering if the lockdown purchases are mostly being used as floating caravans.

Internal industry indicators suggest that the European power/motorboat market will remain as strong, or nearly as strong as now for the next 12 months, probably tailing off thereafter.
I wonder how that'll go in the UK market though with marine diesel - even with the propulsion/heating tax break now nudging £1.70 a litre. There's certainly nowhere near as many powered craft out on the water as there used to be off the UK east coast.

Lots of boats still being used - genuinely not noticed a difference on the Solent. Not that many boats actually out on the water though this season and I'm wondering if the lockdown purchases are mostly being used as floating caravans.

More boats coming onto market recently but still strong prices.

Im pretty sure the Axopar website price is ex engine as well which will add £20k to those figures... plus nav, toilet, decking, heating, cushions etc etc etc... very easy to get to £150k.

Correct. I made this this exact mistake when looking at prices! But in answer to your question, the market is still strong and prices reflect that.

Marinas are pretty full as usual but there's lots of boats still ashore and plenty of empty mooring buoys round here.

Looks great Steve! It's been perfect sailing weather over the last few days and normally the east coast and Suffolk rivers would be heaving with boats, but I've never seen so few people out on the water making the most of it.
Given how quiet everywhere was exactly how the bottomless pit of talent following me up a wide fairway managed to crash into a moored Wayfarer dismasting it in the processes will forever remain a bit of a mystery...

I've been investigating buying my first boat over the past couple of months and am looking at Merry Fishers and Quicksilver Pilothouse models, around the £25-£30k mark.
Is it the case that such boats might drop in price around Septemeber/October?
Unlikely, those boats are very popular... But nothing is guaranteed. Is it the case that such boats might drop in price around Septemeber/October?
You will be paying a premium vs pre-covid however the whole market has uplifted and there are thousands of first time boat owners now getting into the boating life.
I can see a reduction in value happening, but IMO that wont start to happen till the winter of 2023...
