Dog poop drama
Discussion
OK we have had a dog poop drama in one car.
Have cleaned the area which wasn't heavily soiled, but others in family insist can still smell it. I can't but my sense of smell is fairly rubbish.
So far have been hoovering throughout on areas which could have picked up odour molecules.
Got activated charcoal inside, a fan going to circulate and windows cracked.
Next stage is either bicarb of soda/ white vinegar to try and soak up.
Or wash and dry, then Febreze.
One of those aerosol bombs.
Combination thereof.
Or just hand it over to a local detailer who offers a full internal valet including on top of a standard deep clean, ie machine wash, seats shampooed, roof lining clean, fog sanitisation, anti bacterial shampoo, full disinfection, steam cleaning. Takes 1/2 day.

A wet vac is probably the easiest solution but if you fancy a go Hit the area with a decent interior shampoo and use warm water in your bucket to rinse the cloth out.
Autoglym have a very good one, they also do Autofresh which is a spray on odour killer that may help the rest of the car.
Windows open all day whilst your doing it just to air everything.

When faced with faeces in the back of my car- not a great day, about 15 years ago now- I asked a valeter.
He understandably wasn't going to take the job but was kind enough to give me pointers to do it myself.
I stripped out any mats etc and shampooed them, then shampooed the back seats. I bought the "spray on" Febreeze and unscrewed the spray bit (if that makes sense), then I dumped the whole bottle onto the seat and let it dry out. After that, I poured small amounts of neat Febreeze onto it every couple of days until the smell had completely gone. That took about a week and a half during winter, as I recall.
There might be easier ways but it worked, in the end.

If it's on the boot mat, then take it out. If it's just textile (rather than carpet stuck on mdf) then spray it with an all purpose cleaner, allow to soak and jetwash it. Then spray it with something like Autoglym Odour Eliminator (has a purple label)
If that doesn't work, you need something use something like Autosmart Brisk (best via a wet vac) which contains enzymes that digest the bacteria.
You can also supplement this with an ozone generator if you feel it has permeated other fabrics.

Many years ago our old lab decided to roll in fox poo while we were away, with no where to clean him. 3 hour journey home on a warm summers day wasn’t pleasant.
Luckily he didn’t transfer much to the boot lining, but the smell did linger for a few days. Plenty of scrubbing with hot soapy water and buckets of fabreeze did the job eventually.
Failing that…

I have had good success with removing milk and egg and half sausage with a small carpet cleaner - something like - Argos - Vax SpotWash Duo 1-1-142717 Spot Cleaner.
However if the smell has permeated to the rest of the car I would clean the carpets as much as possible, then attack with bicarb of soda, then attack with an AC cleaner thing you stick in the car and leave the fan running on recirc for 10 min or so.

Will update properly later, but it's going well. Got to stage where even the person with the most sensitive nose reckons car just smells of 'car' now, even after car has been left all closed up for some hours.
Just as an aside, there was a sub thread elsewhere in PH where someone posted a picture of a car with a bag of dog poo hanging off the rear wiper, and wondered why anyone would do this, something we normally do, just on this occasion due to distractions at time of loading and unloading dog that didn't happen and the triple bagged parcel of pong escaped timely disposal. THIS thread is why bags of pong are hung off wipers / tow bars.
Certainly as someone suggested it was my concern that the odour molecules had permeated throughout the car and into the fabrics and seating foam. That doesn't appear to have happened or what we've done appears to have dealt with any wider issue. Though the boot floor, parcel shelf and linings have been removed for thorough wet / dry vax-ing and airing. They seem fine too btw.

To close it out.
Boot area stripped out materials. Washed with vax wet/dry Vax, pet odour shampoo. Sorted all fine. But then Febrezed just for extra.
General car interior, cleaned, vacuum, surfaces cleaned. Fabrics and seats also given a wash and dry.
Several trips with windows down plenty of fresh air throughput. Car parked up overnight for 3 nights with windows cracked open, an electric fan inside along with activated charcoal.
Been tested locked up tight two days now in hot weather. No smell. No really, completely clear.
Could have been so much worse result.

I recently used some enzyme odour eater (Valet Pro) in the hatch area of our Golf, which was absolutely wreaking of dog (just dog, not c***) & was frankly astonished by the results.
This....enzymes need to be broken down with crap/sick in cars.lot of them about now days on the market.
