Hi all

I bought a car yesterday, and taxed it immediately online (using green new keeper slip) before driving it home. When I checked later, it turned out that the seller went online and told the DVLA he'd sold it to me, AFTER I'd taxed it. The car is currently showing as untaxed on the online checker.

Does the fact that I taxed it too early mean the tax is invalid?

TIA

Sounds right. You are legally supposed to tax it as the new owner with the v5c (small slip) before driving away

Might take a few days to show as taxed

It shouldn’t do. The green slip reference and the V5 reference are slightly different so the system should be able to see the two separate transactions.

Thanks for the replies!

I (somehow!) managed to get through quite quickly to talk to someone at the DVLA, and she checked for me, and said it was all fine!

Another good piece of knowledge about the mystical DVLA there!

I have noticed the DVLA can be a bit random when it comes to updating when i tax my cars.

Sometimes it can update the next day but the last time i taxed the car it took four days to update.
