Hi Guys

Not sure if I have an anomoly or not.

Last year arond this time, I attempted to have my windscreen replaced (under insurance) by AutoGlass. I went to their workshop and they said they coudn't do the job because they needed to access the OBD port to do resets, or something - and the car wouldnt talk to their equipment. So ok I left it, and got the screen replaced at BMW. I mentioned the OBD port then and just got a puzzled look from the service guy. So I left it. I dont, or didnt need the OBD until now.

Anyway...... Just this last week, I had to arrange insurance so decided to give By Miles a try since my miles are seriously low. Why pay full insurance right, if I can by by the mile? Their miles tracker gadget arrived and I plugged it in, nothing! But i hadn't driven the car for a few days, so I unplugged it, plugged it back in, and started the car up. And an hour later the By Miles app showed the car gadget as active on ther site. But the in app 'car locator' showed my car being in Dundee, when it was actually in west London. So I'm thinking ok, tell By Miles support. They say afer a trip in the car everything should be ok. So I will be doing this, this weekend.

I just get this werid feeling abot this OBD thing. I just wondered if anyone else out there had any issues, or thoughts?

No but let us know how you get on. If anything this shows your OBD port is working.

Following your post I got a quote on By Miles but it comes out at £316 for 2,000 miles vs current £220 with Aviva for 8k miles.

I wonder if you have a dummy obd2 port fitted by previous owner to stop theft?
