I did a search and could not see any thread specifically covering the BBC Proms so I thought I'd start one.
I watched the First Night of the Proms last night and thoroughly enjoyed it especially as I was listening through a decent sound system. It was Verdi's Requiem.
Verdi's Requiem is one of those where you know bits and pieces but never realised where thety originated from.
The next TV broadcast is tomorrow night at 8pm on BBC 4 and will be a mixture of famous British composers such as Vaughan Williams, Edward Elgar and Thomas Tallis.

That'll be a good one!I introduced my wife to them (well, going to them) a few years back as she didn't realise they were relatively cheap tickets so we try and go every year but usually it's a Saturday night on a weekend where we've got nothing else on rather than picking the prom based on the music. This year it's some Mahler by the Berlin philharmonic and a late night jazz prom that evening too. Then if by some miracle we're up and have had an early breakfast the next morning there's a Beethoven piano prom with £15 tickets which we could get to as we stay in a nearby hotel.
Most memorable prom memory for me a few years ago the Berlin philharmonic were playing an Elgar prom, then as an encore they had the Pomp & Circumstance #5 March (Land of Hope and Glory) - hearing that at the Albert Hall without anyone singing was truly special!
