Additional “what’s this wire?”!

Presumably the black wire running from the foreground relay back to the vacant relay socket is just a negative and using that connector to find one?
Might give it a bit of a tidy up.
I believe so, that's where the kit says to plug it in, I thought it odd at the time but just did it anyway. Use a multimeter to check continuity to a chassis point to confirm it's a -ve linkMight give it a bit of a tidy up.
Make the negative and positive connections direct to battery properly, the other two I’d solder and shrink too.
Lessens points of possible failure.
If you want to do it properly I’d put in a correct plug in relay base and fix it somewhere under the dash not hanging in the footwell, if the relay fails it can be changed easily rather than faffing with the wires.

Or, Use the spare position (2) in the fusebox.Wire the 'Start signal' White/red wire to connector D-85l on the back of the fuse/relay box.
Wire the 'starter' White/red wire to connector E-87la on the back of the fuse/relay box.
Fit a relay in position 2 and a fuse in fuse 5.
