Has anyone else had ste service from these clowns lately?

Have been a customer for a few years. Got the card as it was handy for travelling, only to find the travel benefits expired.

No real issue as lockdown prevented travel. However, am going abroad this year so thought I'd look at the options.

Barclaycard apparently do a decent travel card... But there's no way I can transfer to it.

App is a pile of ste. Ditto the online website. Waited on the phone for an hour and a quarter only for the operative to talk me through the app and website! Then "transfer me directly to Barclaycard" only to get the same automated assistant that had me waiting an hour and a quarter.

I can't recall ever having such st service from any company before.

Binning the card and will go elsewhere. Feckin jokers.

I think you have pretty much answered your own question if there is one.

Apply for a card with another bank and go elsewhere, when you contact Barclaycard to cancel you will probably find they start making offers as Virgin did with me when I had one of their cards but in reality they don't really care.

I find all banks are the same

I've used the post office mastercard for many years for personal foreign travel (card fee free), used to be supplied by Bank of Ireland, but has moved to Jaja finance. You can use it in the post office to get foreign cash as a purchase (not cash transaction).

Used it on my trip to Croatia recently - decent app and decent rates.

Not sure what the latest deals are tho...

Barclaycard also annoying because whilst they support Apple Pay, they force you to use their app on Android rather than Google Pay.

I think one of the zero exchange rate fees recommendations is still the Halifax Clarity Card.

The Amex Platinum charge card provides lounge access, travel insurance and other stuff, can be decent value depending on your personal circumstances and ability to cover supplementary cardholders. YMMV.

I have a Revolut and a Starling card.
Both offer decent FX rates, the difference being that you can pre-exchange GBP to EUR or USD ahead of travel with the Revolut, but it has a tiny free ATM limit.
The flip side is they are both debit cards, as opposed to credit, so you don't get the ~6 weeks to pay the bill upon return.

Barclaycard service at present is utterly abysmal. You can complain in the vain hope that they will do something about it, but that would involve using the "chat" functionality in the App - some chats last hours due to their lag in responding, only to be replaced with a new chat with a different person. If you call up and admit to the robohandler that you have the app, it just tells you to use the app and hangs up. If you lie, you join a queue whose length exceeds that of a newly opened Greggs.

I have been looking to vote with my feet, suggestions welcome.

Already mentioned up-thread but Halifax Clarity has no foreign fees and don't think you need a Halifax bank account.

Also, in addition to Starling/Revolut, both already mentioned, Chase have no foreign fees on spending or cash withdrawals, plus you actually get some interest with them.

I have Nationwide Flex Plus and that also has no foreign fees for transactions or withdrawals, but I think their lower level free accounts do charge. Their credit card has no fees but I think you have to have a Nationwide bank account to get one.

I've now reconciled myself with this being the final step of becoming old.

Shouting to the wind that I don't want a fking app and that their website is the same as their fking app so why fking have two avenues, neither of which fking work, and all your fking operatives can do is show me how to use the fking app which I already fking know and it doesn't do what I fking need, only to be put back to the same fking automated attendant!

That feels better biggrin

Will get one of the other cards noted and tear this one up. I suspect I'm not being offered other cards through the (fking) app as I pay it off every month so they make less money.
