Running Hot ? - Check your fans (Both Fans!)
Discussion
Running a bit hot over the weekend, saw the gauge over 100 - but had just sat at 5 consecutive red lights, and didn't get out of first gear between each of them. Assumed with the heat, and no air flow over him, he was just melting. Decided to pull over just to make sure all was fine, lifted the bonnet, could hear and feel the fans running, so assumed all was fine. Luckily I was local, so was able to take a different route and get some air flow over him at speed, all returned to normal fairly quickly, and dropped back to just under 90.
Was on my mind later that evening, but combination of Sun + Gin in the garden stopped me caring too much.
Had a look yesterday after getting him up to temp, to discover that actually only the drives side fan was running. A clean of the contacts at the fan connector and some lube, got it back into life again.
So just because you hear/feel the fans running, make sure both are working, as you'll need them both when sitting in traffic..! Despite mine never being used in the rain in the past 20 years, was surprised the amount of 'furring' of the connector.
