Can you be banned from doing MOTs

Chap local to me, a friend of a friends etc has been caught issuing cash in hand MOTS, can DVSA ban him or will it just be a suspension.
DVSA have prosecuted him for 31 counts of MOT Fraud and taking payments to issue them when never seeing the car all at a known brand garage chain.
He now works at a french car main dealer although not sure how long that will last as he is all over local fish wrapper.

Testers can certainly lose their ticket permanently for serious infringements of which this would seem to be one, the testing station could well be at risk as well. Silly thing to do, the industry is very closely regulated these days.

Never offer me one and I wouldn't bother, MOT is there for a reason, explains how some of boyracers he hangs out with got them though, he has been skating on thin ice a long time he drifts and they upload it to social all the time surprised he hasn't been caught.

Exactly. He'll have been doing mates/acquaintances etc. cars with decats/GPF deletes by the sound of it. Silly boy, could be financially rather ruinous for him in the near future...
Yeh he just got himself a french poo box 1.2t on finance and binned his MX5 drift car, surprised the main dealer he is with now still have him as a tech but I think there is shortage., no my local skoda dealer have lost most of their staff.I wonder if the DVSA could ban him for life?
Him and his crowd don't worry I warned them a few times about going up Cheddar Gorge when I knew of police operations ongoing at the time and they just thought I was trying to ruin their fun, but police have some cameras now and keep and eye on plus they dropped to the limit to 20mph which is painful.
They upload themselves racing and drifting its surprising they dont get caught.

That won't actually happen. Normally DVSA issue a letter to the registered keeper advising them their mot test may be suspect and they might like to get it done again.As for bans etc it's usually a maximum five year ban then if they re apply they may be considered eligible to become an NT again.

90% of those are scams, they get you to pay via BACS or PayPal F&F and then just pocket the cash. Nobody is going to go to the police to say they've been scammed trying to buy a dodgy MOT

They definitely could be. If the test station became aware and brought it to the attention of DVSA they could be ok, but if they weren't they will be in big trouble also.Since the need for inserting a card into a reader wired to the MOT computer was done away with, test stations need a system in place to make sure this type of fraud comes to light very quickly.

My local tester and garage owner told me the DVSA were looking into ANPR cameras being installed in testing bays Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
