I've never managed to find them any cheaper than direct with Eurotunnel. Some ticket/holiday websites are cheaper but they tie you to a certain crossing/departure time, etc which have penalty payments if you change your mind/crossing time. And they ain't much cheaper at that.
The cheapest way is to buy day return. These can be really cheap but your time abroad is limited. You can buy one going out and another for the way back if you planning on a longer stay abroad, but you run the risk of getting caught. You must then pay FULL fare for the crossings. They do have ANPR cameras as you go through the port so your chances of getting away with it are pretty slim.

Nope just taking the FRv over to get lots of goodies. I am down to the last 5 bottles of french red wine today. i need to stock up. I was going to take my mum along as she has doen this a few times before
I've been going five or six times a year for the last ten years. School holidays is high season for all operators, so they're all relatively expensive at the moment. Nevertheless, I always check all the prices. There's not usually much between P&O Ferries, Sea France and Eurotunnel on like-for-like crossings, Speedferries is generally substantially cheaper, especially if you book well in advance. The best deals are usually the 24-hour returns, sailing out of peak hours. BUT at the beginning of July I took a 9-day return crossing with Hoverspeed, car + 3 passengers for under £40. Maybe they've still got some good offers on.
Eurotunnel for a day trip - is usually £39.
Anything longer, go Speed Ferries, as mentioned the Eurotunnel rate for anything more then a day is robbery.
If you pop over for a day trip, take lunch at the Hotel De Normandie in Wissant, just South along the coast from Calais. €21 for a 4 course meal, and a fantastic wine list.
