Been following a few threads trying to get to the bottom of the hesitant engine, fuel tank hissing etc etc.

Started to trace the fuel tank breather through to the carbon canister.

However the vent pipe appears to return out of the OS inner wing to this pipe (see pipe with open end in picture) that was stuffed infront of the radiator. It comes out of the wing through a hole that's a close fitting hole, no grommet or sealant.

Is this correct, I assume it isn't and some bright spark in the past has bodged this instead of replacing the carbon canister. (The vent pipe is the one below the cut end that dips into the inner wing, and I know my radiator has a bit of a leak!) I've also taken what a presume is the hose from the canister, which is the one closest the PAS reservoir on the two at the base of the plenum that side, and there is quite a resistance to flow if I blow down it.

This also begs the question, why is the fuel tank hissing if it has a direct, albeit fairly long, and via the one way valve, vent to atmosphere?

Thanks in advance!

Iain
edited for typos, there's probably some more i havent spotted

As far as I am aware the hissing is the fuel being pumped down the fuel line to the engine. I mentioned a similar sound I had noticed when I had opened the boot with the engine still running. Was told it was nothing to worry about and was normal by the specialist I use for servicing etc.

can't see a piccie but.... FWIW I've got a non-grommeted/non-sealed pipe poking out of the driver side inner wing. The end of the pipe points at the radiator bleed screw.

I understand that this is the aircon pressure relief vent. Certainly I've had luminescent green dye over the bits and pieces around the end of this pipe after the aircon was last gassed.

...i dont have aircon, well i do it's called taking the roof off! and the pipe sticking out comes from the top of the one way valve by the fuel tank, i blew down it and thats where the air came out. Thanks anyway!

edit: btw can you see this picture?

Having been frustrated by the lack of answers to fixing fuel tank breather problems I decided to start taking it apart...
I thought that I'd start at the tank end and found the problem(s) relatively quickly, which were:
1) The flexible breather pipe between the filler and the rollover shutoff valve had been trapped between the tank and rear bulkhead, probably when the chassis had been replaced.
2) The rollover shutoff valve wasn't working reliably.

Having disconnected the flexible breather pipes from the filler neck and the top of the shutoff valve, I removed the shutoff valve from the bulkhead, released the fuel tank top straps and was then able to pull out the shutoff valve complete with the crushed flexible pipe. The flexible was released from the shutoff valve and then WD40 liberally applied to the valve through the two breather connections. A few shakes later and it was working correctly, allowing air through so long as it was within 30 degrees or so of vertical. The crushed pipe was persuaded to relax and all was temporarily re-assembled. Blowing into the breather pipe showed all was well downstream so everything was tightened up and the breather re-attached to the filler neck.

Assuming that the Chimera arrangement is the same as the Griffith the carbon cannister is hidden behind the OS inner wing at the front by the screen wash bottle. It vents via a hose into the plenum via an ECU controlled valve on the lid of the Cannister. There is also a third hose free to atmosphere within the inner wing to allow purge air in.

If the carbon cannister has been removed the plenum vent would have to be blanked.
