Do you have it and what are your thoughts on it?

Driving Assistant Plus (or professional) on the newer BMW's takes control of steering and keeping the car in the middle of the lane, as well as the adaptive cruise control.

I've got it on my car and I think it does a reasonably ok job on motorways and dual carriageways.

What do you use it for?

You mean other than what it was intended for?

I actually meant, what scenarios do you use it for around the UK other than motorway driving. Mine seems to have the traffic light recognition turned off - not sure if thats a UK thing, but it seems to recognise give ways with a red triangle on the dash. Maybe there are things people are doing with it that I haven't thought of.

I use it most in stop/start creeping traffic, it makes a 10 minute queue a piece of cake. I think the hands-on-the-steering-wheel warning must be measured over distance because you can keep your hands off the wheel for ages in slow traffic. Also, traffic light recognition isn’t available in UK.

Yet another completely unnecessary intervention. NHS Ambulances had it and it was removed due to driver complaints over lack of control and a colleagues Range Rover has it and it shakes the steering like brake judder everytime you change lanes.

I will stick with my own inputs thanks.

It doesn't judder if you indicate.

The steering isn't very smooth though, it reacts rather than anticipates so will turn when you're in the corner as opposed to a driver turning slightly before you're there so you always seem to fight it with hands on the steering wheel.

Also, it will brake hard in slow traffic instead of progressively, again reacting to the car in front, not the traffic a few cars down.

I like it though, I was a bit tired and looking for a rest stop, but having the steering gives you a bit of confidence that you'll make it!

I use it on busy A roads mostly, slow moving, can't really overtake and low to medium speed, so just follows the car infront.
