Keeping parts from the bodyshop
Discussion
This may be a daft question but here goes..
My car is soon going to be repaired for bumper damage at an insurance approved garage paid for by the persons insurance who hit me…
Is it out of the question for me to ask the bodyshop if I can keep the old bumper when they remove it? Was just thinking they’re quite hard to get hold of and would make a good spare in the garage, even if it is a bit dented..
I would’ve thought all they would be doing is binning it anyway?? Anyone any experience with this or can the bodyshop decline?
Thanks

Despite what the person above says, no, you won't be allowed to keep it. It is not your bumper, once the insurance company has paid for, and fitted a new bumper to your car the old, damaged part is theirs and you won't be allowed to keep it.
Source; I work in an Insurance Approved Accident Repair Centre.
Disclaimer: That is the case with my site, and the insurers we work with. Give it a go, but don't be upset/annoyed if they say no.

People pay half decent money for damaged parts too - I had someone quite badly damage the rear bumper on my old MINI.
They drove off (lovely) - so to avoid the excess / insurance hike I bought all the parts from a friendly dealer, got them to paint it (car was 6 months old so match wasn't an issue) and fitted it myself.
I lived in a flat at the time - so had to get rid of the old part, no garage - put it on eBay and a guy paid me £100 cash for it - better than taking it to the tip as was my original plan.
