New Shirt - Large neck but not fat

I don't daily a shirt and tie but I have some events coming up where tie is required.

Just been into town and comfortable collar size with tie is 17.5 maybe 17.. however even the slim fit in these sizes balloons out under the arms and at the bottom. I'm 6'2 athletic build.

Any recommendations for off the peg shirts before I go down the tailor made route?

Go to a Charles Tyrwhitt store and try on their extra slim or super slim cut shirts.
