"Business" rucksack.

One of our boys is going into 6th form soon and must wear a business suit. He needs a bag for books and apparently a rucksack is the norm. However, I imagine that shoulder straps will not improve the look of a suit jacket.

A briefcase won't be big enough. Wheelie cases are apparently only used by the Chinese boys and those who are a bit "special" (his words).

Does anyone here wear a suit for work and use a rucksack or similar that doesn't make your clothes look like they need pressing?

A shoulder bag is perhaps an option.

Samsonite do a convertible business bag which can be worn as a backpack - or at least, they usta.

Tumi make a good range that should fit the bill. They’re very well made and seem to last forever. My Tumi laptop bag & other luggage is all over 10 years old & still looks new, despite many trips and some serious abuse.

I think asking PHers who wear suits to work is asking the wrong people tbh.

Most 6 formers in suits use rucksacks. I know mine does.

At the end of the day it’s just school kids in suits not actually business people turning up to an interview or whatever.

You either wear the rucksack over one shoulder (buy one with wide straps, extra padding) or carry it hanging from your thumb by the loop.

I thought 6th form was meant to treat you like an adult and prepare you for the world - everyone else out there is wearing pyjamas and working from home.

I think a wide-strapped rucksack, perhaps with a side handle, is the sort of thing.

I rarely wear a suit to work but when I do I still carry my Swiss gear back pack. That's to meetings and it's never been commented on..... Maybe I'm not as in such elevated circles as some people though!

While I agree that backpacks on crowded paces like the underground are somewhat antisocial, I buy my laptop bags from Tom Bihn. They are as good as it gets

Sounds like you're already too late on that front. Surely the solution is to order his valet to carry it for him?
