The bittersweet return: Pat Metheny and Chopin
Discussion
Maybe some of you have noticed the similarity between Pat Metheny's "San Lorenzo" and the legendary posthumous Nocturne in C-sharp minor.
San Lorenzo: After a tune in a major key, at 5:55, suddenly clouds appear, there is a cold breeze. It makes me feel unwell, physically unwell, every time I am listening to it. It makes me shiver.
Nocturne in C-sharp minor: a moody tune in general, but when you think it is over, then, at (ca.) 2:30, the delicate melody jst starts all over. And then these fragile arpeggios. It really depends both on the player and the piano, most Steinways are not suitable for this piece.
