Bluetooth Audio lag

Hi all. I have a fairly decent spec Samsung tv and Bluetooth speakers.

I have a lag on the audio which I seem to only have an option to make worse in the tv settings (audio output delay).

Is there no way to delay the picture so the Bluetooth can catch up? Don’t get me wrong it’s not unwatchable, just a small amount out of sync. Very noticeable when watching the golf right now and the swoosh of the club is half a second behind the sound lol.

Why would you want the setting which delays the sound output, surely it’s always going to be the other way round?

You could try watching via a set top box or HD recorder and taking the audio from that?

Your problem is bluetooth. Its a slow comms link. I can't use any of my bluetooth headsets when gaming as the lag is obvious. I have radio headphones.

Delaying the picture relies on your hardware supporting it, which your's does not.

My Denon AVR amp allows me to delay the video signal.

Is there no option to hardwire the speakers? Many have an aux-in jack you could connect to your TV. That ought to fix the problem.

I have seen reviews that devices such as: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09L5QWBV5 which support the newer APT-X Low Latency solve this problem.

You would have to plug this device into your Sky Q's audio output(if it has one) and then listen on headphones/speakers that also support APT-X Low Latency

The vast majority of soundbars connect via HDMI as a preference, so no lag. If that sound bar uses BT to talk to satellite speakers then they can code in delay compensation.

Outside of TV, no one notices the lag of Bluetooth as there is nothing to sync it to.

Ok so the more I look into this the interesting it gets.

Seems there’s a Bluetooth version called APTX LL (low latency) and this virtually eliminates the lip sync issue I’m having.

Cables between speakers and tv are a non starter due to wall mounted etc.

Quite possibly. 40ms isn't bad. You can always return it.

You might temporarily run some cables and see if the issue goes away.
Maybe the golf is filmed with a long lens, so the sound is naturally delayed a bit?

I've heard people moan that the sync is different according to source material.
Even basic Bluetooth is often not a huge problem, it depends how it's done in the TV and receiver.
It shouldn't lag anything like half a second.
Is there a choice of using a different Bluetooth CODEC for the link?

Sometimes, it just 'feels' wrong because the sound is coming from the wrong place.
If you just get a TV with adequate speakers, it can be more satisfactory than anything complex, when HiFi sound is not really needed.

It’s not just the golf I can notice it on standard tv too.

I’ve ordered 2 of those low latency transmitter/receivers and I’ll see if that works, they can always be returned if not but for £40 it’s worth a try.

Well they’ve arrived today and bingo. The lag has gone and I’m well happy.

I bought the £19.99 ‘Amazon warehouse’ ones and you can’t tell they’re not new.

Why can’t all devices have this APTX LL codec built in. Both my tv and BT speakers are pretty new and pretty high spec but yet a £20 gadget has solved the issue. Yes soundbars might be able to solve this too but I’d rather have high quality speakers for my tv and not to be restricted to soundbar technology.
