I just came in here to see if anyone else had mentioned this, it frequently happens overnight.
I know it's hard to stop this kind of thing but maybe it could be mitigated by limiting the number of new topics each member can post to one per hour or one every 30 minutes.
It wouldn't stop it completely but would stop the whole forum becoming full of it overnight and I don't think even the most frequent posters start that many new topics so wouldn't affect genuine users.
