Having got my recent clutch problems :yikes: sorted with my V8S it was treated to a weekend away in the sun.....and it didn't miss a beat for 400 miles, until the Battery Warning Light came on!!!

I have searched the forum and it would appear likely to be either battery or alternator?

Strangely the battery volt gauge reads 11 ish when ignition on but car not running, and 13 ish when car is running - but the light does not go out!???

Would this indicate that it is a battery problem rather than alternator!!!!

Help...............I really want to try and get it fixed before SCH3 at the weekend.

Cheers

I would get the alternator checked on the car by anybody who has the equipment, not a drama, if as I think, it is the alternator, get a new one quick.

See you at SCH 3

I had a problem with my battery / battery light / alternator.

I could not find the problem so I took it to a TVR mechanic and it turned out to be loose wiring.

Worth a try!

Complete new alternator fitted to my V8S by Austec in February £175.00 all in inc the dreaded VAT.

Part number (if it helps) is shown as GXE2887.

Very strange - had a closer look at the alternator tonight .........the back of the alternator seems to have two little black boxes with wires coming from them. One is connected to the back of the alternator, and the other is flapping in the wind!! There is a bare spade connector too, but strangely the flapping wire is not long enough to fit....

Would any kind sole be able to post a photo of the back of a V8S alternator showing both the black boxes and where the wires go to.

Sadly I am working in London this week, so am not able to take the poorly beast to a garage until the weekend.....I really want to get it fixed for SCH3.

Cheers

Sorry I don't know how it fits on that model...

but I did say that it sounded like the diode pack and that you might not have to replace the whole alternator...

I vaguely remember reading something similar on here a while ago - something about the wire not appearing to fit but it did really - but maybe not onto the terminal that's obvious? I would suggest looking closely to see if there is another (possibly manky) terminal that the wire DOES reach...

took a pic of mine for you yesterday. Sounds as if mine's a different make but at least it shows what connects and what's free.

Steve

Thanks for the photo.

I have two black boxes fixed to the back of mine......like a mechanical fool I thought these maybe the rectifier/diode that could be faulty or not plugged in. The AA have just come out and checked the alternator and battery etc. It is definately a faulty alternator, and the two black boxes are just supressors to reduce interference on the radio.

I am just about to go out and remove the alternator, and will be standing on the doorstep of the local auto electrician very early tomorrow morning.

I may get to SCH3 yet!!!
