What Wagon? 5k-8k

Hey PHers

So I'm on the hunt for a new (to me) car, little bit of background I had a leggy E92 320d for around 5 years then in February this year I decided to replace it with an 3.0TDI A4 quattro estate on a PCP deal, its a stunning car but I've never bought a car this way before and 6 months in I'm not enjoying it.
Not a huge fan of a monthly fee being taken out my bank account, also the car only ever gets used at weekends and only for dog walks and mountain biking which basically means I'm using a 30k car once a week and making a mess of it when I do.

So I want to go back to my roots and buy something that I don't really have to care about all that much, requirements are pretty simple really, must be able to handle a Golden Retriever, take a roof box, have a tow bar fitted and swallow up all of my biking gear. I've done the Audi thing, been there with a BMW what else is out there?

I have been browsing 159 Sportwagons in Ti spec but I keep coming back to a BMW E92.

Not very PH at one level but as utilitarian transport they take some beating... what about one of those van-based things? Kangoo, Berlingo, Doblo, Caddy etc. Plenty of room and light for doggo, plenty of space for your stuff, diesel ones will tow pretty well and basic enough to hose out if the Cairngorms forecast turned out to be 'changeable'.

I have looked a couple of vans style cars and a Caddy is about the only one I would possibly buy but they come with a huge amount of cool/VW tax on them and I still want to be in a "car" as such.

I've got a Mondeo Tit X Sport estate myself. Does everything you're asking for, and has a lot of nice mod cons (heated/cooled seats, adaptive cruise, climate control, bluetooth audio) but it's not exactly quick.

Can be had for less than £4k

If you get the 2.5T it's reasonably quick too... Although you can't exactly use it all with a Golden Retriever in the back so probably better to go for one of the lesser models anyway.
